Effingham, South Central, Cumberland Advance to State

All three area junior high volleyball teams competing in sectional action captured victories and will be heading to their respective state tournaments this Friday.

Effingham captured its own Class 4A Sectional Monday evening. The Mustangs downed Mahomet-Seymour, 25-16, 25-23.

Effingham advances to the Class 4A State Tournament with a 20-4 record. The Mustangs will meet Morton (20-4) at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Mount Zion High School. The winner advances to a noon match Saturday.

Class 2A Effingham St. Anthony Sectional

South Central came out the champion in the St. Anthony Sectional Monday evening.

South Central downed Ramsey, 25-14, 25-12 to improve to 24-1 on the season.

South Central will meet Mason City Illini Central (23-2) at 5:45 p.m. Friday at Auburn High School. The winner advances to a noon match Saturday.

 

Class 8-3A Casey-Westfield Sectional

Cumberland remained undefeated by downing Shelbyville Moulton in the championship match of the Casey-Westfield Sectional Monday.

Cumberland won 25-12, 25-23.

Cumberland advances to the 3A State Tournament Friday at Tolono Unity Junior High School. Cumberland will face Tolono Unity (22-3) at 7 p.m. The winner advances to a 1:15 p.m. contest Saturday.
