Effingham Junior High School claimed the championship of the Class 8-4A Charleston Volleyball Regional Thursday evening.

Mattoon took the first set 25-19. But the Mustangs fought back to capture the second set, 25-23. Effingham then claimed the regional championship by downing Mattoon 25-14.

The Mustangs advance to their own sectional Monday at 6:30 p.m. Effingham takes on Mahomet-Seymour, a 25-23, 23-25, 25-23 winner over Champaign Jefferson at the Rantoul Eater Regional.

Class 8-4A Charleston Regional

Effingham -- Ballman, 1 ace, 10 digs; Budde, 23 assists, 1 ace, 9 digs; Althoff, 1 assist, 8 digs; Sowell, 4 kills, 1 assist, 2 blocks, 1 dig; Belcher, 3 kills, 1 block; Angel, 1 kill, 7 assists, 4 digs; Kull, 3 aces; Shuler, 2 aces; Chrappa, 18 kills, 11 digs; Walls, 10 kills, 1 ace, 4 digs

 

 Class 8-2A Hutsonville Regional

St. Anthony faced South Central in championship action at the Hutsonville Regional Thursday evening.

South Central came out the winner, taking the opener 25-19. St. Anthony came back for the second set, 26-24. South Central then won 25-22.

South Central advances to the St. Anthony Sectional Monday and will face Ramsey at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Neoga Regional

Ramsey picked up the championship of the Neoga Regional Thursday evening.

Ramsey downed Findlay Okaw Valley for the title. Okaw Valley won the opener 25-19 but Ramsey came back with 25-22, 25-8 victories.

Ramsey faces either St. Anthony or South Central Monday in the St. Anthony Sectional at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

Shelbyville Moulton claimed the Sullivan Regional championship Thursday.

Shelbyville Moulton defeated Teutopolis, 25-17, 25-23. T-town ends the season with an 11-11 record.

Shelbyville Moulton advances to the Casey-Westfield Sectional Monday to face Cumberland at 6:30 p.m.

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

Teutopolis -- Swingler, 2 aces, 1 kill; Hardiek, 2 kills; Probst, 2 aces, 3 assists, 1 kill; Lewis, 1 ace; Jansen, 2 aces, 1 kill

 

Class 8-3A Jasper County Regional

Jasper County saw its season come to a close in its own regional Thursday evening.

Cumberland handed Jasper County a defeat in two sets, 25-13, 25-7.

Cumberland now advances to the Casey-Westfield Sectional to face Shelbyville Moulton at 6:30 p.m. Monday.
