Eighth-Grade Volleyball Regionals -- March 6

Several area teams saw their seasons come to a close in eighth-grade regional volleyball action Tuesday evening.

 

Class 1A Chrisman Scottland Regional

Both local teams in this regional saw their seasons come to a close.

In the opeing match Tuesday evening, Chrisman Scottland downed Stewardson-Strasburg, 25-19, 25-17.

The second contest went to Hume Shiloh over Windsor. Windsor claimed the opener 25-13 but Hume Shiloh came back with 25-23, 25-14 counts for the win.

Chrisman Scottland will meet Hume Shiloh at 6 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Class 8-1A Chrisman Scottland Regional

Stewardson-Strasburg -- Hayes, 2 aces, 1 kill, 3 assists, 9 points; Smith, 3 aces, 4 assists, 6 points; Agney, 1 kill; Ogle, 6 aces, 3 kills, 3 digs, 12 points; Hewing, 1 ace, 2 kills, 9 digs, 4 points; Dasenbrock, 1 kill, 1 block, 3 points; Braden, 1 dig, 2 points

 

Class 8-1A West Salem Regional

Both teams also went down to defeat in this regional.

Sigel St. Michael fell to Grayville, 25-14, 25-10 in the opening match.

In the second contest, West Salem beat Effingham Sacred Heart, 25-14, 25-18.

Grayville takes on West Salem at 6 p.m. Thursday for the title.

 

Class 8-2A Neoga Regional

There will be no area teams competing for the regional title in the Neoga Regional.

Findlay Okaw Valley downed Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City. CHBC won the opener 25-21 but Findlay came back with 25-16, 25-17 counts for the win.

Ramsey added St. Elmo/Brownstown a loss, 25-14, 25-12.

Ramsey meets Findlay Okaw Valley at 4:30 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

 

Class3A Sullivan Regional

Teutopolis moved into the championship of the Sullivan Regional Tuesday evening.

The Wooden Shoes beat Arthur, 25-22, 25-20. The team moved above the .500 level with an 11-10 record.

In the second match, Shelbyville Moulton downed Tuscola East Prairie. Tuscola won the opener 25-18. Moulton came back with 25-12, 25-14 victories.

T-town now meets Shelbyville Moulton at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

Class 3A Sullivan Regional

Teutopolis -- Deters, 2 kills, 1 block; Swingler, 1 ace, 1 dig; Hardiek, 4 aces, 5 kills, 1 dig; Probst, 3 aces, 5 assists; Tensen, 1 assist, 2 blocks; Lewis, 2 assists; Jansen, 2 kills, 1 dig

 

Class 3A Jasper County Regional

Jasper County and Cumberland will square off for the regional championship Thursday at 4:30 p.m. after both picked up wins Tuesday night.

Cumberland won over Casey-Westfield, 25-10, 25-7.

In the second match, Jasper County downed Robinson Nuttall, 25-12, 25-9. Jasper County improved to 18-5.

Class 3A Jasper County Regional

Jasper County -- Kessler 5, aces, 3 kills, 2 digs; Russell, 2 aces, 2 kills, 7 assists; Ochs, 2 aces, 5 kills; Weidner, 2 aces; Johnson, 1 ace, 3 kills, 3 digs; Kidwell, 1 ace, 3 kills; Carr, 3 assists

 

Class 8-4A Charleston Regional

Mount Zion and Mattoon were winners in the opening night of the Charleston Regional.

Mount Zion downed Charleston, 25-17, 25-12.

In the second contest, Mattoon won over Decatur Jefferson, 25-6, 25-6.

The final match went to Monticello over Stephen Decatur, 25-8, 25-17.

Mount Zion advances to face Effingham at 4:30 p.m. today followed by Mattoon against Monticello at 5:30. The winners advance to the title match Thursday.
