W/SS, Newton Advance to Super-Sectionals

The Windsor/Stew-Stras Hatchets and the Newton Eagles have advanced to super-sectional volleyball action.

The Hatchets defeated another area school, the North Clay Cardinals 25-8, 25-16, to win their own Class 1A Sectional title Wednesday, while the Eagles defeated the Kansas Co-op team, 25-10, 25-22 to win the Robinson 2A Sectional championship.

Windsor/Stew-Stras will next play Cobden on Friday at 6pm for the Farina (South Central) Super-Sectional championship, while Newton will take on Carlinville Friday at 6pm for the Vandalia Super-Sectional title.

Hatchets' Coach Ronda Schlechte said, "The girls came out pretty strong in the first set, but then got a little too comfortable at the beginning of Set 2 and made several mistakes. They kept their heads on and turned it around. Definitely an exciting night with lots of very loud fans. It was nice to see so many come to support us."

Windsor/Stew-Stras improved to 32-6 on the season with the win.

Newton posted its 30th win over the season against just seven losses.
