SEB Claims EIC Tourney Title, Area Volleyball Roundup

ST. ELMO -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School captured the championship of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday evening.

In the final night of play at the round robin tourney, St. Elmo/Brownstown opened with a 25-20, 25-18 win over Patoka.

In the second match, SEB defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-18, 25-12. CHBC was led by Lauren Wojcik and Haley Atchley with three kills each, Taylor Oldham with six assists and seven digs and Olivia Witteborg with seven digs.

CHBC then beat Patoka 25-15, 25-23. Wojcik had four kills, four aces and two blocks, Kylee Bertin five assists and Witteborg four digs.

St. Elmo/Brownstown finished with a 4-0 record for first place followed by CHBC at 3-1, Ramsey 2-2, Patoka 1-3 and Mulberry Grove 0-4.

At Louisville

Effingham St. Anthony pulled out a victory in three sets over host North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 25-21 but North Clay came back with a 25-20 second set win. St. Anthony then pulled out a 25-23 victory.

Meg Richards and Sydney Gibson led in kills with 10 each. Abby Stock and Katie Kabbes had three aces each. Stock led in assists with 31. Richards led in points with nine.

In junior varsity action, North Clay won 25-22, 11-25, 15-11. The Bulldogs claimed the freshman match 25-10, 25-11.

At Louisville

At Altamont

Altamont handed Clay City a loss in action Thursday, 25-19, 25-21.

H. Wolff tallied seven kills to lead the Indians. Grimsley led in digs with 10. Jackman and Grimsley had three aces each. Kuhns tallied 12 assists. The Indians improve to 20-13 on the season.

In junior varsity play, Altamont claimed a 25-12, 25-11 victory.

At Neoga

Neoga claimed a National Trail Conference victory over South Central in action Thursday.

The Indians won the opening set 25-23 but South Central came back with a 25-20 victory. Neoga then claimed the match 25-22.

Blair Banning led in assists with 19. Mary Hill had 22 kills and two blocks. Emma Fearday led in digs with 11 and had three aces.

The Cougars were led by Zoe Johnston with 11 points, six digs, eight assists and three aces, Keely Smith with seven kills and Mackenzie Potter with three aces. South Central drops to 10-19 overall.

South Central won the junior varsity match 25-21, 25-17 and stands at 6-7. In a freshman/sophomore match, South Central lost the opener 25-21 but came back with 25-8, 15-6 counts to improve to 3-3-3.

At Paris

Newton pushed its record to 26-7 with a 25-13, 25-14 win over Paris in action Thursday.

Geltz and Frohning had three aces each for the Eagles. Frohning led in kills with eight. Hemrich tallied nine assists. Bierman and Earnest led in blocks with two each. Geltz tallied 11 digs.

In junior varsity play, Newton was a winner 25-14, 25-15.

Tri-County handed Cumberland a loss in two sets, 25-20, 25-20.

Sadie Oakley led Cumberland in kills with six. Tayler McMechan had three aces. Aly Maynard and Katelyn Yaw led in blocks with two each. Bradley and McMechan had five assists each. Guyon had 27 digs. The Pirates are 11-16 on the season.

Tri-County also claimed the junior varsity contest 25-15, 25-20.
