EHS Falls, T-town, WSS, CHBC, SEB Nab Wins

MATTOON -- Efifngham High School dropped an Apollo Conference volleyball match to Mattoon Tuesday evening.

The Green Wave won 25-20, 25-22. The Hearts were led by Chloe Martin with six kills, Carsyn Fearday with nine assists, Kiyah Kuhlman with two aces,  Martin and Shelby Myers with three blocks each and Miranda Fox and Jordan Christy with 10 digs each.

The Hearts drop to 13-22 on the season.

Mattoon also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-22 and EHS ends the season at 10-7. The Green Wave claimed the freshman/sophomore match 25-19, 25-17. The Hearts finish the season at 8-11-1.

At Teutopolis

The Wooden Shoes played host to Robinson and celebrated Senior Night with a victory in three sets Tuesday evening.

Robinson won the opener 26-24 but T-town came back with 25-15, 25-18 counts for the win.

"We ended regular season by winning 10 of the last 12 matches and ran our record to 22-11," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "It is the first time in school history that Teutopolis has reached the 20-win mark in volleyball. Even in our losses, we've played well. In the third set in both those last two losses, the margin of victory was only two points for Newton and Freeburg. It would appear that we are playing our best volelyball at the right time. Looking forward to the regionals."

Leading the Shoes were Grimes with 19 assists, Bueker with 15 digs and nine kills; Frey with nine kills, E. Michels with nine kills and M. Michels with 14 blocks and nine kills.

T-town won the junior varsity match 16-25, 25-23, 25-15 and the freshmen won 25-13, 25-21.

At Teutopolis

At St. .Elmo

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City and St. Elmo/Brownstown both claimed two victories each in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Tuesday evening.

CHBC defeated Mulberry Grove in the opening match 25-23, 25-18 and later downed Ramsey 25-8, 25-23. Renee Buzzard and Lauren Wojcik had four kills each for CHBC against Mulberry Grove while Allie Stell had six aces. Kylee Bertin had seven assists. Olivia Witteborg had eight digs.

In the win over Ramsey, L. Wojcik had 12 aces and three kills. Stell had three kills. Bertin and Taylor Oldham had five assists each. Witteborg led in digs with six.

St. Elmo/Brownstown downed Ramsey 25-19, 25-17 and then won over Mulberry Grove 25-18, 27-25.

The tournament continues Thursday with SEB against Patoka at 6 p.m. followed by CHBC against SEB at 7 and Patoka meeting CHBC at 8.

The tournament goes by wins-losses. Mulberry Grove ended its tourney stay with an 0-4 record while Ramsey finished at 2-2. CHBC and SEB are 2-0 each and Patoka is 1-1.

 

At Tuscola

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg pushed its record to 25-4 on the season with a win over Tuscola.

The Hatchets went out at 25-19, 26-24. Megan Schlechte had two aces, 12 kills and 15 digs while Mackenzi Tabbert led in assists with 27.

"The girls rebounded from last night's game and played more solid," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte."Still dealing with some inconsistencies that I would like fixed before next week. Saturdy we will see Edwards County and Mount Zion at the Mount Pulaski Tournament. This will be our final push before post-season so, hopefully, we can use the strong competition to find that confidence."

Tuscola claimed the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-21. Stew-Stras drops to 14-5.

Olney came calling and handed South Central a loss in two sets, 25-7, 25-17.

Keely Smith led South  Central with five points, three kills and three digs. Zoe Johnston had four assists. The Cougars drop to 10-18.

Olney won the junior varsity match 25-14, 9-25, 25-19. South Central falls to 5-7. Olney also claimed the freshman/sophomore match 25-15, 25-17.  The Cougars drop to 2-3-3.

At Farina

At Marshall

Cumberland defeated Marshall in action Tuesday evening. The Pirates won the opener 25-20 but lost the second set 25-11. Cumberland then came back with a tough 29-27 score for the win.

Sadie Oakley led in kills with five. Tayler McMechan had four aces, two blocks and 12 assists. Claire Guyon led in digs with 33. The Pirates are now 11-15 on the season.

Cumberland also claimed the junior varsity contest, 15-8, 25-10.

At Marshall
