OLNEY --  Effingham St. Anthony High School handed Olney a loss in volleyball competition Monday evening.

The Bulldogs won in two sets, 25-19, 25-21 . Leading St. Anthony were Marci Mills with 10 kills, Katie Kabbes with one ace, Meg Richards and Shea Kinkelaar with two blocks each and Abby Stock with 28 assists.

St. Anthony also nabbed the junior varsity match 23-25, 25-20, 15-10. Olney claimed the freshman contest 25-17, 25-14.

At Altamont

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg was pushed to three sets against Altamont but claimed a win Monday.

The Hatchets won the opener 25-21 but Altamont fought back to take the second set 25-22. WSS then won 25-21 to improve to 24-4 on the season.

"Altamont sure came ready to play us tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlecte. "They had a pretty solid night. We struggled at the net, working around the block and passing was off."

Mackenzi Tabbert and Megan Schlechte had two aces each for the winners. Schlechte led in kills with 14. Tabbert had 30 assists and 13 digs.

Altamont was led by Mette and Wolff with five kills each. Grimsley had 16 digs. Mette led in aces with five. Kuhns had 10 assists and Mayhaus had two blocks. The Indians are 7-1 in the Natinoal Trail Conference 19-13 overall.

Altamont claimed the junior varsity match 25-23, 25-14 to improve to 7-1 in the conference, 17-8-1 overall..

Newton captured a non-conference win over Dieterich in action Monday evening.

The Eagles won 25-8, 25-10 and now stand at 15-7 on the season. Earnest tallied six aces. Frohning led in kills with seven. Hemrich and Frohning had eight assists each. Meinhart led in digs with four.

Dieterich was led by Hannah Hunzinger with two assists and two aces, Nicole Flood with two aces. Lauren Garbe and Jenny Robards with two digs each. Alexis Lucy had one block.

In junior varsity action, Newton was a winner 25-6, 25-20.

Neoga fell to Paris in varsity competition Monday, 25-19, 25-16.

The Indians were led by Mary Hill with two kills, five digs and six blocks, Blair Banning with nine digs and Aly Easton with six assists.

At St. Elmo

Play opened in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Monday evening at St. Elmo High School.

Patoka defeated Mulberry Grove 25-14, 25-15. Ramsey then downed Patoka 20-25, 25-23, 26-24. Ramsey finished out with a win over Mulberry Grove 18-25, 25-19, 26-24.

The tourney continues tonight as Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City faces Mulberry Grove at 5 followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against Ramsey at 6, CHBC vs. Ramsey at 7 and SEB taking on Mulberry Grove at 8.

The tournament will come to a close Thursday.
