WSS Takes Two Wins At NTC Tourney

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School picked up two victories in opening round play of the National Trail Conference Volleyball Tournament at St. Anthony's Enlow Center Thursday.
The Hatchets opened with a win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in two sets, 25-9, 25-16. Taylor Rentfro led the Hatchets with three aces while Megan Schlechte had 11 kills. Mackenzi Tabbert contributed 26 assists. Mikayla Haddock had nine digs.
CHBC was led by Haley Atchley with three kills, Taylor Oldham with five assists and Olivia Witteborg with 12 digs.
Neoga claimed the second match over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City, 25-11, 25-22.
The Indians were led by Mary Hill with 10 kills, Blair Banning with 12 digs and Aly Easton with 13 assists.
CHBC was led by L. Wojcik with five kills and a block, Oldham with eight assists and Witteborg with 11 digs.
In the final match of the evening, Windsor/Stew-Stras beat Neoga 25-16, 25-12.
M. Schlechte had two aces, 10 kills and 11 digs for the Hatchets. Tabbert led in assists with 24.
Neoga was led by Hill with six kills, seven digs and three lbocks.
"The girls took care of business tonight and had some fun doing it," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte.
Play continues tonight with action at both the Enlow Center and Goff Gym.
At the Enlow Center, Altamont faces Dieterich at 5 p.m. followed by South Central against Dieterich at 6 and Altamont facing South Central at 7.
At Goff Gym, St. Anthony takes on St. Elmo/Brownstown at 5, North Clay against St. Elmo/Brownstown at 6 and St. Anthony meeting North Clay (Louisville) at 7.

Effingham traveled to Mahomet-Seymour and fell to the homestanders, 25-12, 25-19.
The Hearts were led by Carsyn Fearday and Chloe Martin with five kills each, Aly Armstrong with nine assists, Kourtney Cordes with three blocks and Miranda Fox with six digs.
In junior varsity action, Effingham claimed a win 22-25, 25-20, 25-16 to improve to 10-6.
Mahomet-Seymour won the freshman/sophomore match 25-16, 25-18 to drop to 8-10-1.

Newton pushed its Little Illini Conference record to 7-0 on the season by downing Olney 25-17, 25-17.
The Eagles were led by Hemrich with 13 assists, Frohning with 12 kills, Bierman with three blocks, Geltz with 10 digs and Smith, Earnest and Hemrich with one ace each. Newton improves to 20-6 overall.
In the junior varsity match, Olney was a winner 25-20, 20-25, 15-12. The two teams split freshmen sets with Olney winning 25-17 and Newton taking a 25-21 contest.
