Newton players go up for block against T-town's Julia Frey (25).

TEUTOPOLIS -- Newton High School handed Teutopolis a loss in volleyball competition Monday evening.

The Eagles won the opening set 25-21 but T-town came back with a 25-21 count to even the match. Newton then had a hard-fought 25-23 victory for the match.

Frohning had 15 kills for Newton while Meinhart put down two aces. Hemrich finished with 16 assists. Kuhl and Bierman had a block each. Geltz led in digs with 12. The Eagles are now 19-6 on the season.

T-town was led by Savannah Grimes with two aces, 12 points and 14 assists, Jolene Bueker with 14 digs and Macy Michels with 13 blocks and 11 kills.

"It was an awesome match to watch," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Both teams made big plays on defense and both teams had big hits. It was the fourth time we've played Newton. We beat them the first time we saw them but they've taken three in a row from us. The third set was really back and forth. We spotted them six points and then fought all the way back and were up 23-22. But the final three points were horrible. We missed a serve, missed a tip from Newton and then shanked a serve."

T-town's junior varsity won 25-14, 25-23. Newton claimed the freshman contest 25-19, 25-22.
