WSS Downs St. Anthony, Volleyball Roundup

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School pushed its National Trail Conference volleyball record to 8-0 on the season by downing Effingham St. Anthony at the Enlow Center Tuesday evening.
The Hatchets won in two sets, 25-14, 25-15. Megan Schlechte led in kills with 14 while Mackenzi Tabbert had 24 assists. Leading in digs was Mikayla Haddock with 12 and she also led in aces with two. Maria Gentry had six block assists.
"The girls came out to play tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "It was so nice to see it all come together. Maria was a blocking machine. They all played the net very aggressively. Forced errors were at a minimum and it was great to see them having fun. Hopefully, it will carry into Saturday at the Shelby Pana Invitational."
St. Anthony was led by Meg Richards with four kills and two blocks and Abby Stock with one ace and 15 assists.
In junior varsity action, WSS won 26-24, 25-17. St. Anthony took the freshman/sophomore match 25-23, 25-16.

At St. Elmo
Altamont came calling for a National Trail Conference matchup and downed host St. Elmo/Brownstown Tuesday evening.
The Indians lost the opener 25-18 but came roaring back with 25-21, 25-17 sets for the match.
Leading St. Elmo/Brownstown were Marlee Nolen with eight kills and eight points, Dena Shelton with eight points, Madison Carson with 12 assists, four aces and 12 digs and Natalie Oberlink with three blocked shots.

South Central claimed a win over Sandoval in two sets, 25-18, 25-16 Tuesday evening.
Baylie Maske tallied 13 points for the Cougars along with three aces. Miranda DeWitt led in kills with seven. Serina Lee had five digs and Zoe Johnston led in assists with eight.
South Central is now 8-14 on the season.
In junior varsity play, South Central won 25-18, 25-15 to improve to 5-5.

Newton picked up a win over Flora in two sets. The Eagles won 25-11, 25-19 to improve to 17-6 on the season.
Meinhart led in aces with three for the Eagles while Frohning led in kills with 10 and assists with eight. Bierman, Frohning and Kuhl had two blocks each. Geltz led in digs with nine.
Flora was a winner in junior varsity play, 25-18, 25-15.
