Altamont, T-town Capture Wins, Volleyball Roundup

Altamont High School played Dieterich Thursday during "Volley for a Cure" night.  At the end of the evening, over $2,500 had been raised and was donated to Altamont's Woo-Hoo Sisterhood organization.

ALTAMONT -- Altamont High School played host to Dieterich during the "Volley for a Cure" Night. The Indians claimed the victory in two sets, 25-11, 25-16 and now stand at 6-1 in the National Trail Conference, 15-5 overall.

Mayhaus had five kills to lead the Indians while Mette had seven digs and nine aces. Kuhns had seven assists and Jackman had three blocks.

Dieterich was led by Allie Poe, Molly Niemerg and Jenny Robard with three digs each. Lauren Garbe had two kills.

In junior varsity play, Altamont won 25-4, 28-26 and is 7-0 in the conference, 13-3 overall.

At St. Anthony

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Teutopolis and the Wooden Shoes went home with a victory in varsity action Thursday.

The Shoes took the first set 25-20 then came back to beat off St. Anthony for a 26-24 victory. Julia Frye had four blocks and eight kills for the Shoes while Savannah Grimes had 15 assists. Macy Michels had four blocks, seven digs and nine points.

"The varsity won for the 15th time tonight," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "They now have a record of 15-9. It wasn't pretty. We gave away too many points. The St. Anthony servers did a nice job of pushing our passers in and out on serve receive and we didn't respond very well. They had nine aces while we only had two. We were down most of the second set but the girls never quit. No matter the score, they keep working."

The St. Anthony junior varsity won 16-25, 25-16, 18-16. T-town's freshmen won 25-17, 25-19.

Effingham dropped an Apollo Conference loss to Taylorville in action Thursday.

The Tornadoes won 25-9, 25-22. EHS falls to 0-8 in the Apollo Conference, 6-15 overall. Miranda Fox and Carsyn Fearday led in digs with six each. Kiyah Kuhlman had two aces. Kourtney Cordes had four kills while Aly Armstrong led in assists with four.

The Hearts won the junior varsity contest 25-13, 26-24 to improve to 7-6. EHS also won the freshman/sophomore match 25-22, 28-26 to improve to 4-7-1.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg picked up a National Trail Conference win over North Clay (Louisville) Thursday.

The Hatchets won 25-21, 25-14 to improve to 7-0 in the conference, 13-2 overall.

"We had very strong net play tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "It was aggressive and we kept a lot of balls on their court. Unfortunately, our passing kept our offense scrambling for the balls. Still working on the consistency as a whole."

Mackenzi Tabbert and Anna Schlechte led in aces with two each. Megan Schlechte led in kills with 11. Tabbert had 19 assists. Martina Gratz had eight digs. Maria Gentry and Mackenzee Reynolds had three block assists each.

WSS also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-22 to improve to 6-1 in the NTC, 11-3 overall. The Hatchets split the freshman/sophomore match 25-15, 17-25 and are 8-4-1.

Newton continues to roll along. The Eagles downed Robinson 25-18, 25-13 and now stand at 16-6 on the season.

Frohning led in aces with two, kills with 10 and assists with 14. Bierman and Kuhl had one block each. Getlz led in digs with eight.

Newton also claimed the junior varsity match 23-25, 25-5, 25-17.

Neoga picked up a National Trail Conference win over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City in two sets, 25-12, 25-20.

Mary Hill led the Indians in kills with 10. Blair Banning had 13 digs and Aly Easton led in assists with 17. Emma Fearday and Easton had two aces each.

CHBC was led by Haley Atchley with six kills while Olivia Witteborg had 12 digs. Taylor Oldham led in assists with five. Lauren Wojcik and Allie Stell had one ace each. CHBC drops to 2-6 in the conference, 5-12 overall.

Neoga nabbed the junior varsity match 16-25, 25-14, 25-14.

Cumberland claimed a victory over Martinsville in two sets Thursday. The Pirates won 25-19, 25-20.

Sadie Oakley led in kills with five for the winners. Oakley and Tayler McMechan had two aces each. McMechan led in assists with 11. Claire Guyon had 16 digs. The Pirates improve to 8-13.

In the junior varsity  match,Cumberland won 23-25, 25-13, 25-14.
