CHBC Wins Varsity Match; EHS 1-1 In Freshman Tourney

MULBERRY GROVE -- Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City High School downed Mulberry Grove in volleyball competition Friday.

Mulberry Grove won the opener 25-19 but the Bobcats came back to take the next two, 25-21, 25-22 for the victory. CHBC is now 3-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference, 5-9 overall.

Renee Buzzard and Allie Stell led in kills with six each for the winners. Haley Atchley had five aces. Kylee Bertin led in assists with 11. Olivia Witteborg had 18 digs.

Effingham Freshman Tournament

Effingham took a loss and picked up a victory in its own freshman tournament Saturday.

Teutopolis defeated the Hearts 25-17, 25-20 in the opener. In the second match, Effingham downed Robinson 25-12, 29-27.

The Hearts are now 4-6-1 on the season.
