St. Anthony Beats Patoka, EHS Drops Match, Volleyball Roundup

PATOKA -- Effingham St. Anthony High School went three sets before taking a victory over Patoka in volleyball action Thursday evening.
The Bulldogs won the opener 25-9 but Patoka clawed back with a 25-21 count. The Bulldogs then claimed the match 25-20. Meg Richards had 11 kills while Marci Mills had 10. Sophie Moore and Abby Stock led in aces with three each. Richards and Shea Kinkelaar had a block each. Stock led in assists with 30.
St. Anthony also claimed the junior varsity contest 25-19, 25-20.
At Patoka

At Mattoon
Effingham fell in Apollo Conference action to Mattoon in three sets. The Hearts won the opener 25-17 but Mattoon rallied for 25-17, 25-19 victories for the match.
Chloe Martin and Natalie Carie had 10 kills each. Aly Armstrong led in assists with 14. Jordan Christy had four aces. Martin led in blocks with four. Miranda Fox had 16 digs.
EHS drops to 0-6 in the conference, 6-13 overall.
Mattoon claimed the junior varsity match 25-21, 25-22. EHS drops to 6-5.
In a freshman/sophomore match, Effingham and Mattoon split. The Hearts won 25-19 and Mattoon won 25-18. EHS is 3-6-1.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split with Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Thursday evening.
In varsity action, CHBC fell to the host squad 25-18, 25-21. That drops CHBC to 4-9 on the season. Haley Atchley led in kills with three while Lauren Wojcik and Katlyn Johnson had three aces each. Wojcik had a block. Katelyn Johnson led in assists with four.
In the junior varsity match, CHBC was a winner 25-20, 26-24.
At Centralia

St. Elmo/Brownstown was a winner in National Trail Conference action Thursday evening.
SEB was a 26-24, 25-11 winner. Marlee Nolen led the squad in kills with six. Katelyn Maxey and Nolen had two aces each. Madison Carlen had a block and led in assists with 10.
Neoga was led by Mary Hill with five kills and three aces. Blair Banning added three aces, two assists and three digs, Aly Easton had two assists.
Neoga won the junior varsity match 25-12, 25-21.

Clay City handed Dieterich a loss in action Thursday. The Wolves won 25-13, 25-16.
The Movin' Maroons were led by Lauren Garbe with three kills, two aces, three digs and two blocks; Hannah Hunzinger with three assists and two aces and Nicole Flood with three digs.
The junior varsity match went to Clay City 30-28, 26-24.

North Clay (Louisville) downed South Central in a National Trail Conference contest Thursday.
The Cardinals won 22-25, 25-9, 25-21. South Central drops to 2-4 in the conference, 5-12 overall.
Zoe Johnston had eight points for South Central, seven assists and seven kills. Miranda Dewitt had five kills. Baylie Maske had eight assists.
North Clay won the junior vasrity match 25-18, 25-23. South Central falls to 3-6. The Cardinals also won the freshman/sophomore match 25-16, 25-18. South Central is 1-1-4.

The Cumberland junior varsity won 21-25, 25-16, 15-7.
