MULBERRY GROVE -- St. Elmo/Brownstown High School claimed a victory over Mulberry Grove in volleyball competition Monday.

SEB won in two sets, 25-11, 25-17. Dana Shelton led in kills with five for the winners and in digs with three. Madison Carson and Marlee Nolen had seven assists each. Nolen led in aces with four and in points with 10.

At Strasburg

South Central won the opener over Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg 25-23 but the homestanders came back with 25-13, 25-12 counts for the victory Monday.

"We sure did not play our game tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Seems like we always birng out the best in other teams and they took advantage of our sluggishness in set one. We struggled with illnesses with another asthma attack and a couple went down from the heat. MacKenzee Brown came in to help out and she played so well for us. We adjusted well with all the turmoil and was able to run our offense. Tomorrow is a new day, so hopefully we can come out and play our game."

Mackenzi Tabbert led WSS with 23 assists while Megan Schlechte had four aces, 15 kills and two solo blocks. Mikayla Haddock had 16 digs. The Hatchets improve to 4-0 in the National Trail Conference, 9-2 overall.

Keely Smith led the Cougars with six kills and four stuffed blocks. Baylie Maske had six points. Mackenzie Potter and Miranda DeWitt had six digs each. South Central drops to 5-11 overall.

WSS took a 25-22, 25-15 win in the junior varsity match and improves to 3-1 in the conference, 8-2 overall. In a freshman/sophomore contest, WSS was a winner 25-13, 25-19 to improve to 2-3.

Flora came calling and picked up a three-set win over Altamont Monday.

The Indians won the opener 25-19 but Flora came back with 25-22, 25-16 counts. Altamont drops to 11-5 on the season.

Jackman and Mette led in kills for the Indians with six each. Grimsley had 18 digs. Mette and Jackman had four aces each. Mette led in blocks with two and Kuhns led in assists with 11.

In junior varsity play, Altamont won 24-26, 25-12, 25-12 to improve to 7-0.

In Saturday action at the Belleville East Tournament, Altamont fell to Waterloo 25-20, 25-17, won over Alton 26-24, 25-13, lost to Belleville Althoff 25-13, 25-5, Metro East Lutheran 25-19, 25-23 and beat Cahokia 11-25, 25-23, 15-5.

Cumberland came calling and downed Neoga in action Monday.

Neoga took the opening set 25-22 but Cumberland came back with a 25-23 count then won the match 25-17.

Mary Hill had 15 kills and four blocks for Neoga. Blair Banning and Aly Easton had 10 assists each. Jessica Atwell and Andrea Estay had two digs each.

Neoga drops to 4-8 on the season.

North Clay (Louisville) captured a National Trail Conference win over Dieterich Monday evening.

The Cardinals won 25-11, 28-26. Dieterich was led by Lauren Garbe with four kills, four aces and three blocks; Hannah Hunzinger with six assists and nine digs and Jenny Robards with six assists

North Clay also nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-22, 25-20.

Dieterich competed in the Flora Tournament Saturday. The Maroons fell to Flora 25-5, 25-17; to North Clay (Louisville) 19-25, 25-16, 15-4; to Cisne, 16-25, 25-16, 18-16, to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran 25-12, 25-15 and to Clay City 25-9, 25-12.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis dropped a match to Greenville in action Monday.

Greenville won the opener 25-18 but the Wooden Shoes came back to take the second set 25-23. Greenville then picked up the match victory 27-25.

T-town was led by Macy Michels with 13 blocks and 14 kills and Savannah Grimes with 16 digs and 8 points and 19 assists. The Shoes drop to 12-8 on the season.

"We were hoping to bounce back after a rough weekend at St. Anthony where we struggled, losing three of four matches," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Our offense continued to miss too many attacks. We had 10 hitting errors in set one. Set two started the same way but about halfway through we began to figure it out and the girls rallied to win a hard-fought set. Set three was a back and forth affair. We made a couple mistakes late that swayed the set in their favor.

T-town's freshman split with Greenville 25-11, 21-25.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City fell in both varsity and junior varsity matches to host Central A&M Monday.

In the varsity contest, CAM was a 25-17, 25-17 winner. CHBC drops to 4-7 on the season. Lauren Wojcik had five kills and one block for the Bobcats. Taylor Oldham had four assists. Olivia Witteborg led in digs with nine. Renee Buzzard had one block and Allie Stell led in aces with two.

Central A&M also won the junior varsity contest, 25-10, 24-26, 15-10.
