Effingham finished second at the Charleston Tournament Saturday.

CHARLESTON -- Effingham High School captured second place at the Charleston Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts fell to Carbondale 25-22, 25-19 then defeated Argenta-Oreana 21-25, 25-10, 15-4 before downing Cumberland 25-15, 25-10 and Charleston 23-25, 25-17, 25-20. EHS then fell to Carbondale 25-13, 25-10 to finish second.

The Hearts are now 6-11 on the season.

St. Anthony Invitational

Effingham St. Anthony played host to an invitational Saturday. Pana claimed the championship.

In Pool A, Newton defeated Teutopolis 25-12, 25-22, Pana defeated Shelbyville 25-17, 25-16, Shelbyville defeated Newton 20-25, 25-14, 15-13, Pana defeated Teutopolis 25-17, 16-25, 15-13, Pana defeated Newton 28-26, 25-13 and Shelbyville defeated Teuotpolis 17-25, 25-20, 15-7.

In Pool B, St. Anthony defeated Sullivan 25-16, 25-19, Tri-County defeated Olney 25-13, 25-15, Olney defeated Sullivan 25-17, 25-12, Tri-County defeated St. Anthony 25-16, 25-18, Olney defeated St. Anthony 25-23, 20-25, 15-13 and Tri-County defeated Sullivan 25-12, 25-22.

In the semifinals, Pana defeated Olney 25-11, 25-12 and Tri-County defeated Shelbyville 25-17, 23-25, 15-13.

In the champoinship, Pana defeated Tri-County 25-19, 25-18. Third place went to Shelbyville over Olney 24-26, 25-17, 15-11. Newton defeated st. Anthony for fifth place 25-23, 25-15 and Teutopolis downed Sullivan for seventh place 28-26, 25-15.

Named to the All-Tournament Team were Pana's Shayna Stremming and Aubrey Funneman, Tri-County's Grace Burnside and Alison Smith, Shelbyville's Lauren Russell, T-town's Erica Michels, Newton's Mariah Earnest, Olney's Faith Stallard, Sullivan's Elizabeth Green and St. Anthony's Marci Mills.

 

Windsor JV Invitational

Neoga claimed the championship of the Windsor Junior Varsity Invitational Saturday.

In Pool A, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg defeated Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond 25-23, 25-15, Okaw Valley downed ALAH 25-18, 25-22 and WSS beat Okaw Valley 25-11, 25-13.

In Pool B, Neoga defeated WSS 25-19, 25-15, WSS won over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-16, 25-22 and Neoga beat CHBC 25-22, 25-19.

In the championship match, Windsor/Stew-Stras beat Neoga 19-25, 25-17, 25-15.
