EHS Beats St. A in Pinkout Match, Volleyball Roundup

Effingham High School handed Effingham St. Anthony a loss in volleyball competition Tuesday during Pink Out night.

The Hearts won in two, 25-14, 25-15 and is 2-0 on the season. Leading EHS were Chloe Martin with six kills and three blocks, Aly Armstrong with nine assists and Jordan Christy with nine digs.

Marci Mills led St. Anthony with four kills, two blocks and one ace, Sydney Gibson with a kill and two blocks and Shea Kinkelaar with three blocks.

Effingham also claimed the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-21 and the freshman/sophomore match 25-22, 25-12.

At Dieterich

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg improved to 1-0 in the National Trail Conference and 2-0 overall with a win over Dieterich Tuesday.

The Hatchets won 25-7, 25-17. Mackenzi Tabbert had three aces and 20 assists for the winners. Megan Schlechte had eight kill. Marie Gentry had seven kills and three solo blocks. Mikayla Haddick led in digs with five.

"We're still trying to find the right rotation," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Played around with a 5-1 tonight. The team is still struggling with hitting and service errors at times. The girls play the net really aggresively so now we start looking at being smarter.

At Centralia

St. Elmo/Brownstown fell to Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran in action Tuesday.

Christ Our Rock took the opener 25-22 then came back for a 25-12 win for the match.

SEB was led by Natalie Oberlink with five kills and five points and Dana Shelton had seven digs.

At Marshall

Teutopolis defeated  Marshall 25-13, 25-22 in action Tuesday.

"Marshall lacks size but not heart," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "They were very scrappy. Set one was over pretty quick. We got out to a big lead and Marshall never recovered. Our serves dominated their serve receive and our offense was clicking. Set two was completely different. We got out to a quick lead but couldn't put them away and their diggers started picking up spikes. The girls did a great job of working together and put on a run to take the lead 23-21. Then after siding them out to score the 24th point, Jolene Bueker blasted a kill to end the set."

Julia Frye led in blocks with six. Savannah Grimes had 11 digs and 14 assists. Macy Michels led in kills with eight and Kate Volk had six points.

T-town won the junior varsity match 25-13, 26-14 and a freshman contest 25-12, 25-7, 15-7.

Neoga picked up a varsity match win over Arcola in action Tuesday, 25-18, 25-23.

Jessica Atwell led the winners in digs with seven. Blair Banning had 12 assists. Mary HIll led in kills with 10. Olivia Titus had five aces.
