EHS, St. A, WSS, Altamont, CHBC, T-town Take Volleyball Wins

Effingham High School hosted Newton and claimed a varsity victory, 25-23, 25-22 in volleyball competition Thursday.
The Hearts were led by Chloe Martin with five kills and three aces, Carsyn Fearday with eight assists and Miranda Fox with 13 digs. EHS will be back in action Tuesday against Effingham St. Anthony.
Newton was led by Frohning with nine kills, three aces and 10 assists, Geltz with 16 digs and Earnest and Bierman with two blocks each. Hemrich had 10 assists.
In junior varsity action, Newton was a winner 25-23, 17-25, 25-20. The Hearts won the freshman/sophomore match 25-22, 25-22.

St. Anthony defeated South Central in action Thursday, 25-8, 25-23.
Sydney Gibson had nine kills for the Bulldogs. Abby Stock led in aces with three. Abby Stock had 33 assists. Meg Richards led in digs with eight.

At Strasburg
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a win in three sets over Mowequa Central A&M. The Hatchets won the opener 25-14 then lost the second contest 25-15 before taking the match 25-18.
"Tonight started off with a bang," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We looked strong and everything went as planned. Then we totally broke for set two. Lots of hitting errors and passing was a struggle. Thankfully we were able to pull it off with set three despite losing two starters to emergencies. Girls were playing new positions and there was sheer panic on the floor. These two emergenices were on top of two other starters already being out due to injuries so it was big to come out of all that with a win."
Claire Moomaw and Mackenzie Reed had two aces each for the winners. Megan Schlechte had 16 kills, 18 digs, four solo blocks and two block assists. Mackenzi Tabbert had 17 assists.
In junior varsity play, Windsor/Stew-Stras was a winner 25-16, 25-18.

The Indians of Altamont handed Carlyle a loss in three sets. Altamont won the opener 25-19 then fell in the second set 25-23. The Indians then pulled out a 25-18 win for the match.
Runge had 13 kills while Pemberton had six digs. Mette, Goeckner and Runge had three aces each. Goeckner led in assists with 17. Runge had six blocks.
Altamont won the junior varsity match 25-11, 25-18.

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City downed Dieterich in both matches Thursday evening.
CHBC won the varsity match 25-22, 25-18. Taylor Oldham had six aces for the winners and six assists. Haley Atchley led in kills with five and digs with 14.
The Movin' Maroons were led by Nicole Flood with three kills while Jenny Robards had seven digs. Hannah Hunzinger had three assists. Lauren Garbe led in aces with three.
In the junior varsity match, CHBC was a winner 14-25, 31-29, 25-19.

Teutopolis defeated Salem in varsity action Thursday. The Wooden Shoes lost the opener 27-25 but came back 25-18, 25-17.
Macy Michels had nine blocks and 10 kills for the Shoes. Jolene Bueker led in digs with six. Julia Frye and Erica Michels had eight points each. Savannah Grimes led in assists with 14.
Salem won the junior varsity match 25-22, 18-25, 25-23. T-town's freshmen won 25-14, 17-25, 10-5.

Vandalia handed St. Elmo/Brownstown a loss. Vandalia was a winner in the opening set 25-20 but SEB came back to take the second set, 25-21. The Vandals then won the match 25-9.
Madison Carson had three kills for SEB. Deana Shelton led in aces with three aces.
