DOWNS -- Cumberland captured a victory then suffered a loss at the Class 7-3A State Volleyball Tournament Saturday at Downs Tri-Valley High School.
Cumberland won its opener over Tolono Unity 25-18, 25-22. In that match, Kennedy Stults had two aces and nine points, Mackenzie Taylor two points, Zoe Mitchell three points, Ivy Ayers 11 points, Mackenzie Fehrenbacher one point, Isabelle Martinez one ace and three points and Taylor Tolen one point.
Auburn downed Herscher Limestone 25-20, 15-25, 26-24, Washington won over New Berlin 25-19, 25-19 and Eureka defeated Downs Tri-Valley 25-16, 25-19.
In the semifinals, Cumberland fell to Eureka 28-26 and 25-14. In the match, Carly Thornton had two aces and four points, Taylor three points, Mitchell two points, Ayers two points, Martinez one ace and one point and Tolen one point.
In the other semifinal, Washington beat Auburn 25-9, 25-6.
Washington will meet Eureka at 6:45 p.m. Tuesday for the state championship while Cumberland will take on Auburn at 5:30 p.m. for third place.
