STRASBURG -- Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 8-1A Stew-Stras Volleyball Regional Tuesday evening.

Stew-Stras defeated Sigel St. Michael for the regional crown. St. Michael won the opening set 27-25 but Stew-Stras came back with a 25-8 count then claimed the match 25-23 for the title.

Stew-Stras advances to the Sigel St. Michael Sectional Monday, March 13 and will face Grayville at 6:30 p.m.

Class 1A Stew-Stras Regional

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Altamont came up with a victory in the Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Volleyball Regional Tuesday.

Altamont opened with a 25-20, 25-20 win over North Clay (Louisville).

In the second match, Edwards County (Albion) defeated Effingham St. Anthony 25-11, 25-15.

Altamont will now face Edwards County at 6:30 p.m. Thursday for the championship at 6:30 p.m.

Class 8-2A St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional

Altamont -- Runge, 11 kills, 3 digs, 3 aces, 2 blocks; Pemberton, 5 kills, 6 digs, 1 block; Mette, 8 digs, 3 aces; Goeckner, 4 digs, 3 aces, 10 assists, 1 block; Brummer, 2 aces; Boedecker, 9 assists

 

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Regional

Jasper County will be playing for the championship of the Paris Mayo Regional after winning Tuesday evening.

Jasper County lost the opening set to Marshall 25-20 but came back with 25-9, 25-13 wins for the match. Jasper County improved to 10-12.

In the opening match, Robinson Nuttall downed Paris Mayo 25-15, 22-25, 25-20.

Jasper County will face Robinson Nuttall at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at 6:30 p.m. for the regional title.

Class 8-3A Paris Mayo

Jasper County -- Chapman, 7 aces, 3 kills, 6 assists; Kinder, 6 aces, 5 kills, 5 digs; Frichtl, 5 aces, 1 dig; Murray, 2 aces, 4 kills, 5 assists, 1 dig; Parr, 1 ace, 2 kills, 3 digs; Michl, 6 kills, 1 block; Einhorn, 2 digs

 

Class 8-3A Arthur Regional

Cumberland and Shelbyville Moulton will square off for the championship of the Arthur Regional after both teams were winners Tuesday evening.

Shelbyville Moulton opened with a 25-13, 25-8 win over Arcola.

In the second match, Cumberland downed Tuscola East Prairie 25-16, 25-19.

Cumberland will take on Shelbyville Moulton at 6:15 p.m. Thursday for the championship.

 

Class 8-4A  Mattoon Regional

Effingham saw its season come to a close with a loss in the Mattoon Regional Tuesday.

In the opening match, Charleston won over Danville North Ridge 25-6, 25-15.

Effingham then fell in the second contest 25-13, 25-22 to host Mattoon.

Mattoon and Charleston square off for the championship at 4:30 p.m. Thursday.

 

Class 8-1A Grayville Regional

Grayville won its own regional championship Tuesday evening.

Grayville downed West Salem 25-17, 25-13 and will now advance to the Sigel St. Michael Sectional Monday, March 13 against Stewardson-Strasburg at 6:30 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional

Paris Crestwood defeated Oakland Lake Crest to win its own Class 8-2A Regional Tuesday evening.

Paris Crestwood advances to the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional Monday, March 13 to face the winner of the St. Elmo/Brownstown Regional, either Altamont or Edwards County (Albion). Those two teams play Thursday for the title.
