FISHER -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School is a sectional champion.

The Hatchets captured the Class 1A Fisher Volleyball Sectional Thursday evening to advance to the Sweet 16 with a victory over Farmer City/Blue Ridge, 25-15, 25-10.

"The girls were so excited winning tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "As a whole we didn't play as well tonight but several had really good games. Kenzi and Kasey both had amazing nights with their hitting. From here on out they all need to be at the top of their game and I know they are very motivated to do their best."

Becca Schlechte, Mackenzi Tabbert, Carson Cole and Mikayla Haddock had an ace each for the winners. Tabbert led in kills with 11. B. Schlechte had 27 assists and 12 digs. Cole led in digs with 13.

The Hatchets improve to 32-5 on the season and will now face Springfield Lutheran at the Mount Pulaski Super-Sectional Saturday at 1 p.m.

Springfield Lutheran beat Mount Olive 12-25, 25-18, 25-10 to win the Jacksonville Rout Sectional.

Class 2A Vandalia Sectional

Newton captured the championship of the Vandalia Sectional by beating Shelbyville Thursday evening.

The Eagles won 25-23, 25-22 and are now members of the Sweet 16.

Leading Newton were Hartrich with 17 assists, Hardiek with 10 digs and Bergbower with four aces and eight kills. The Eagles are now 35-3 on the season.

Newton advances to the Trenton Wesclin Super-Sectional Saturday for a 1 p.m. contest against Belleville Althoff Catholic.

Belleville Althoff Catholic downed Edwards County (Albion), 25-16, 25-12 to win the Pinckneyville Sectional.

Class 1A Lebanon Sectional

Clay City is a champion. The Wolves won the Lebanon Sectional Thursday evening with a 25-22, 25-22 win over Woodlawn.

Clay City now advances to the Christopher Super-Sectional Saturday at 1 p.m. and will face Norris City-Omaha-Enfield. NCOE won the Marion Crab Orchard Sectional by beating Valmeyer 25-20, 25-19.
