Bulldogs Volleyball Season Comes to End, WSS, Newton Advance

St. Anthony shows its volleyball regional championship plaque before heading to the Fisher Sectional.

FISHER -- Effingham St. Anthony High School saw its volleyball season come to a close in the Class 1A Fisher Sectional Tuesday evening.

The Bulldogs fell to Farmer City/Blue Ridge in three sets. Farmer City/Blue Ridge won the opener 25-19 but the Bulldogs clawed back to a 25-18 win. FCBR went out at 25-22.

Hannah Will led St. Anthony in kills with 17 and digs with 22. Jenna Woltman and Abby Stock had three aces each. Marci Mills finished with 16 digs.

St. Anthony ends the season with a 17-19 record.

In the first match of the evening, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg advanced to the sectional championship with a 25-9, 25-14 win over Danville Schlarman.

"I'm really excited for the girls tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "The girls played a solid game tonight. Not much to nitpick at. They look so good when everyone can contribute to the team's success. Our passing was on spot for the most part which makes it easy for our offense to work. Our movement on defense also looked good."

Megan Schlechte had two aces, seven kills and 16 digs. Becca Schlechte had one solo block and two block assists. She led in assists with 22.

The Hatchets advance to face Farmer City/Blue Ridge at 6 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.

Class 1A Fisher Regional

Class 1A Lebanon Sectional

South Central's season came to a close in the Class 1A Lebanon Sectional Tuesday evening.

The Cougars fell to Woodlawn 25-22, 25-18. Kacie Crain and Hannah Rubin tallied five points and two aces each for the Cougars. Kendall Burleyson had 10 kills. Crain led in digs with 14. Emily Chapman led in assists with 13.

The Cougars finish the season 25-9.

In the opening match, Clay City beat Edwardsville Metro-East Lutheran 25-23, 26-24.

Clay City now takes on Woodlawn at 6 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.

Class 1A Lebanon  Sectional

South Central -- Crain, 5 points, 2 aces, 14 digs; Rubin, 5 points, 2 aces, 2 kills, 14 digs; Burleyson, 10 kills, 6 assists, 2 digs; Chapman, 1 point, 4 kills, 13 assists, 1 dig; Hahn, 1 point, 8 digs; Wilkins, 3 kills, 2 digs; Bray, 2 points, 1 dig; Germany, 1 kill; Sigrist, 1 stuff block

 

Class 2A Vandalia Sectional

Newton advances to the championship game of the Vandalia Sectional. The Eagles lost the opening set to Pana 25-18.

But Newton rallied and came back to take the match 25-22, 25-21. Bergbower led in kills with 15. Hartrich had 34 assists. Earnest, Hartrich and Frohning tallied three blocks each. Hardiek and Cohorst had 15 digs each. Hardiek and Frohning led in aces with one each.

The Eagles are now 34-3 on the season and will face Shelbyville at 6 p.m. Thursday for the sectional championship.

Shelbyville defeated Carlinville 25-20, 25-19 in the second match Tuesday.

Class 2A Vandalia Sectional
