MOUNT PULASKI -- Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg High School captured the championship of the Mount Pulaski Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
WSS claimed the opener over Lincoln 25-21, 25-16 then downed Waterloo Gibault 25-17, 25-23 and Illini Central 25-18, 25-18. Th Hachets then beat Shelbyville 25-9, 25-18 and finished out with a victory over Mount Zion. The Hatchets lost the opener 25-14 but came back 25-19, 25-21 for the victory.
"We had a very good day," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "The girls used the competition like they should have and I am so pleased with how they progressed. We had one ugly set but I will take that. I'm so proud of how the girls fought back after taking a huge hit against Mount Zion in set one. I felt like we panicked and couldn't handle the hard hitting like we should have. It kept us out of system the entire set.
"We calmed down by the end of it and was able to fight hard for the win. Becca really led the way and had a strong day. Kenzie came through and stepped up for her best games yet helping relieve some pressure from Megan."
The Hatchets are now 29-5 on the season.
