EHS On Roll, SEB Takes Second at EIC Tourney

DIETERICH -- Effingham High School ended the regular volleyball season on a roll, taking three straight wins. The Hearts downed  Dieterich 25-21, 21-25, 25-16 in action Thursday evening.

Sidney Webster led the Hearts with 16 assists, 11 digs and three blocks. Kaitlyn Baker and Hannah Pike slammed down three aces each while Chloe Martin led in kills with 13.

Dieterich was led by Allyssa Boerngen and Hanna Ruholl with nine digs each. Sydnie Vahling had five kills. Madeline Aherin led in assists with eight. Lauren Garbe had three blocks.

The Hearts are now 12-23 on the season and will compete in the Taylorville Regional Monday.

In the junior varsity match, Effingham was a 25-11, 25-13 winner to end the season at 13-5.

Effingham St. Anthony downed North Clay (Louisville) in two sets, 25-13, 25-17.

Hannah Will led the Bulldogs in kills with eight while Marci Mills had seven. Katie Kabbes had two aces. Meg Richards led in blocks with two.

At St. Elmo

Patoka captured the championship of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Round Robin Tournament Thursday evening.

In the final evening of competition, St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-16, 21-25, 25-18 while Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City beat Patoka 25-21, 25-20. Patoka then won over St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-23, 26-24.

Patoka finished first with a 3-1 record followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown 3-1, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 3-1, Ramsey 1-3 and Mulberry Grove 0-4.

At Farina

South Central handed Neoga a National Trail Conference loss in two, 25-20, 25-21. The Cougars finish conference season in second place with a 7-1 record and stand at 23-8 overall.

Kacie Crain and Rachel Bray had five points each for the winners. Crain finished with 19 digs. Kendall Burleyson led in kills with seven and had nine assists. Emily Chapman also had nine assists. Hannah Rubin led in digs with 13.

South Central won the junior varsity contest 19-25, 26-24, 25-23 and is 11-2. The freshman/sophomore squad split, losing the opener to Neoga 25-19 then winning 25-21 to finish at 2-4-1.

At Newton

Newton finished out the regular season with a 30-3 record by beating Paris 25-14, 25-9 Thursday evening.

Shipman led in aces with four. Bergbower had nine kills. Hartrich led in assists with 21. Cohorst had six digs. Earnest had one block.

The Eagles will be back in action at Bridgeport for regional action Tuesday.

Newton also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-18, 25-11 and a freshman contest 25-13, 30-28.

Tri-County defeated Cumberland in two sets, 25-23, 25-21.

The Pirates were led by Skylar Brumleve with three kills and a block and Lainey Jackson with three aces and a block.

The Pirates drop to 16-12 on the season and will be back in action Monday in the Teutopolis Regional against Altamont.

Tri-County also nabbed the junior varsity  match 25-13, 25-9.

At Shiloh
