Newton Finishes Second At Edwards Co. Tourney

ALBION -- Newton High School captured second place at the Edwards County (Albion) Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Hamilton County 25-14, 25-18 then won over Mount Carmel 25-13, 25-13. Newton moved into the Gold Bracket and lost to Edwards County 25-18, 25-23. The Eagles then beat Trico 25-9, 25-19 and Effingham 25-12, 25-20.

Hartrich and Frohning led in aces with six each. Bergbower had 43 total kills. Hartrich had 82 assists during the tournament. Earnest had nine blocks. Bergbower had 43 digs.

Teutopolis competed in the Freeburg Tournament and picked up a victory and suffered three losses.

The Wooden Shoes beat Nashville 23-25, 26-24, 15-10. T-town then fell to Waterloo 25-18, 25-13 and Collinsville 25-17, 16-25, 18-16. T-town then dropped a final match to Gibault 26-24, 25-19.
