Altamont Advances In Regional Play, Area Roundup

VANDALIA -- Altamont High School opened play in the Class 1A Vandalia Volleyball Regional Monday evening with a victory.

The Indians defeated Metro East Lutheran in three games. Altamont won the opener 25-22 but Metro East Lutheran came back with a 25-22 victory. Altamont then claimed the match 25-20. White led in kills with 17, digs with nine and stuff blocks with two. Wendling had 20 assists. Kopplin led in aces with three.

Altamont improves to 12-17 and will meet Vandalia today at 6 p.m. in second round action. The second match features Flora against Staunton, a 25-4, 25-10 winner over Alton Marquette, at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Shelbyville Regional

Teutopolis saw its season come to an end with a loss in the Shelbyville Regional Monday.

Host Shelbyville claimed the win over the Shoes 25-16, 25-15. Katelyn Ruholl led in assists with seven. Michelle Schmidt had two blocks and Morgan Breer had five digs. T-town ends the season with a 5-23 record.

Shelbyville advances to second round play today against Pana at 6 p.m. followed by Effingham St. Anthony facing Cumberland at 7 p.m.

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Cowden-Herrick picked up a victory to advance in the Neoga Regional Monday evening.

The Hornets beat Beecher City 25-13, 26-24. Beecher City was led by Kacie Hilt with two aces and 10 assists, Taylor Danekas with three digs and Kirsten Buzzard with four kills.

Cowden-Herrick will now meet top-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg today at 6 p.m. followed by Neoga taking on Dieterich at 7 p.m.

Class 1A St. Elmo Regional

Action began in the St. Elmo Regional Monday evening as Ramsey defeated Mulberry Grove in two games. Ramsey won 25-21, 25-15.

Ramsey will now move on to face top-seeded St. Elmo today at 6 p.m. followed by Brownstown against Patoka at 7.

Class 3A Olney Regional

Play opened in the Olney Regional Monday evening as Charleston and Paris squared off.

Charleston picked up the victory 25-18, 25-17. The Trojans move into today's competition at 6 p.m. against top-seeded Mattoon followed by Effingham facing Olney at 7 p.m.
