St. Anthony Wins, EHS Falls in Volleyball Action

Effingham St. Anthony High School handed Patoka a non-conference loss, 25-20, 25-4 in volleyball action Thursday.

Meg Richards tallied five kills for the Bulldogs while Jenna Woltman had 10 digs and 11 assists. Hannah Will led in aces with eight and scored 17 points.

The  Bulldogs also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-16.

At St. Anthony

At Effingham

Mount Zion came calling and picked up an Apollo Conference victory over Effingham 25-19, 25-23.

The Hearts were led by Kaitlyn Baker with seven kills and eight digs, Sidney Webster with 12 assists and Kourtney Cordes with two blocks.

The Braves also nabbed the junior varsity match 28-26, 16-25, 26-24. The Hearts fall to 4-5.

Effingham won the freshman/sophomore match, 25-20, 19-16 to improve to 2-3.

North Clay (Louisville) fell to visiting South Central 25-13, 25-15. The Cougars improved to 13-4 on the season.

Kendall Burleyson tallied 10 points, five aces, three kills and five assists for the winners. Kacie Crain led in digs with 10. Emily Chapman and Serena Germany had three kills each.

North Clay was led by Taylor Jones with three blocks, two kills and two digs and Darcy Fender with two kills.

South Central improved to 8-1 in the junior varsity match with a 25-15, 18-25, 25-16 win. The Cougars also won the freshman/sophomore match 25-20, 17-25, 25-13.

Clay City handed Dieterich a loss in varsity play, 25-11, 25-11. The Movin' Maroons drop to 7-8.

Lauren Garbe had six digs for the Maroons and two kills. Hannah Hunzinger had two assists.

The Wolves also nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-9, 25-13. Dieterich dropped to 0-10.

Centralia Christ Our Rock defeated Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-20, 20-25, 25-20. CHBC drops to 1-15.

Kara Clearwater had seven kills and three blocks. Haley Atchley and Felicia Johnson had 10 digs each.

CORL won the junior varsity contest 25-18, 25-21. CHBC took the freshman/sophomore match 25-19, 25-21.

At Cowden

Newton moved its record to 18-2 with a 25-7, 25-13 victory over Lawrenceville Thursday evening.

Frohning led the way in aces with two for the Eagles while Bergbower had seven kills and three blocks. Hartrich led in assists with 18. Hardiek and Frohning led in digs with six each.

Newton won the junior varsity match 25-7, 25-13.

Neoga picked up a National Trail Conference victory over St. Elmo/Brownstown Thursday.

The Indians won 27-25, 25-10.

SEB was led by Elissa Barron tallied five kills for the winners and six points. She also had one ace along with Marlee Nolen.
