ALTAMONT -- South Central High School finished second at the Altamont Volleyball Invitational Saturday. The Cougars fell to Raymond Lincolnwood in the title contest 25-14, 25-22.

South Central had beaten Nokomis 27-25, 25-10, Greenville 25-23, 25-21 and Cumberland 23-25, 25-11, 15-2 to enter the title contest.

Greenville took third, Vandalia fourth, Cumberland fifth, Altamont sixth, Nokomis seventh and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City eighth.

Altamont beat Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City 25-20, 25-16  then fell to Lincolnwood 25-16, 25-18. The Indians defeated Vandalia 25-19, 23-25, 15-15 then lost to Cumberland 25-16, 25-18.

CHBC lost to Altamont 25-20, 25-16, fell to Vandalia 25-14, 25-22 and lost to Lincolnwood 25-23, 25-14.

Effingham finished second in the Champaign Central Junior Varsity Tournament Saturday.

The Hearts defeated Champaign St. Thomas More 25-21, 25-11, then won over Lexington 27-25, 25-27, 15-12. The Hearts lost to Peoria Notre Dame 25-23, 25-22.

Newton claimed the championship of the Casey-Westfield Volleyball Tournament Saturday.

The Eagles defeated Effingham St. Anthony 25-11, 25-21 then won over Tolono Unity 14-25, 25-11, 15-13 and Cisne 25-12, 25-17.

Ini the Gold Division, Newton beat Unity 25-17, 28-26 and then won the championship over Edwards County (Albion) 25-17, 25-16.

Named to the All-Tournament Team from Newton were Grace Hartrich and Mallory Bergbower.

St. Anthony lost to Casey-Westfield 15-25, 27-25, 25-13 then defeated Cisne 25-15, 25-12. St. Anthony fell to Westville 25-7, 25-15 before beating Cisne 25-19, 25-19. The Bulldogs fell to Newton 25-11, 25-21.

St. Elmo/Brownstown finished sixth while Neoga was seventh in the Mattoon Tournament Saturday.

Mattoon claimed the championship with a 5-0 record followed by Heyworth 4-1, Taylorville 4-1, Pana 3-2, Warrensburg-Latham 3-2, St. Elmo/Brownstown 2-3, Neoga 1-4 and Sullivan 0-5.

SEB lost to Mattoon 25-5, 25-3, won over Neoga 25-14, 18-25, 15-8, beat Sullivan 25-11, 25-15 and lost to Warrensburg-Latham 25-19, 25-14.

Neoga beat Sullivan 25-16, 25-16, lost to Taylorville 25-8, 25-11, lost to Heyworth 25-10, 25-4, lost to Warrensburg-Latham 25-14, 25-15 and lost to BSE 25-14, 19-25, 15-8.
