Newton Beats EHS, Area Volleyball Roundup

NEWTON -- Newton High School played host to Effingham and picked up a victory in two sets, 25-16, 25-12. The loss drops EHS to 1-1 on the season.
The Eagles were led by Frohning with five kills and two aces. Hartrich had 15 assists. Smith put up two blocks. Bergbower had 13 digs. Newton is now 5-0 on the season.
Effingham was led by Chloe Martin with five kills, Sidney Webster with seven assists and Kaitlyn Baker with 10 digs. The Hearts drop to 1-1 on the season.
Newton also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-16, 23-25, 25-13.

At Farina
South Central had a tough battle with St. Elmo/Brownstown but finally pulled out the victory. SEB won the opener 25-23.
The Cougars came back with a 25-14 count and then fought to a 26-24 win in the final set. Kacie Crain led in points with 11, aces with three and digs with seven. Kendall Burleyson had eight kills and six assists. Emily Chapman led in aces with 13.
SEB was led by Dana Shelton with 16 digs and six points and Ashlyn Mitchell with six kills.
South Central also won the junior varsity match 25-15, 25-23. SEB took the freshman/sophomore contest 25-10, 21-25, 15-4.

Marshall played host to Dieterich and sent the Maroons home with a loss 25-16, 25-19. Dieterich drops to 1-3 on the season.
The Maroons were led by Aly Lane with four aces, Sydnie Vahling with four digs, Hannah Hunzinger with four digs and nine assists and Lauren Garbe with five kills and two blocks.
Marshall also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-13, 25-6.

Casey-Westfield picked up a victory over Altamont but had to go three sets.
Altamont won the opener 25-18 but the Warriors came back with 25-18, 25-19 counts.
Hanna Paquette led the Indians with nine assists while Katie Grimsley had 20 digs, Leah Mayhaus four blocks and Hannah Wolff, Taylor Paquette and Marlee Fearday four kills each.
At Casey

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg made short work of Cumberland, downing the Pirates 25-12, 25-11 to improve to 3-0 on the season.
"We found our consistency tonight," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We served tough, played the net well and moved really well on defense. It was a total turnaround from Tuesday night."
Becca Schlechte led the Hatchets with five aces and 18 assists. Megan Schlechte had 10 kills. Carson Cole led in digs with six.
In junior varsity action, Cumberland took the victory 25-14, 25-17.
