Effingham Wins Over St. Anthony in 2016 Volley for the Cure. Area Roundup

It wasn't a Pink Out Night, but mint green.

Nonetheless, every other ingredient of the 2016 Volley for the Cure event at Effingham High School Tuesday night was just as it has been the past 16 years. 

Effingham won this year's event, downing St. Anthony 25-18, 25-19. However, the big winner was the battle against cancer. 

$2,522 was raised from the event, raising the amount generated by the nine years at EHS to $16,042.50. 

Effingham also claimed the junior varsity match 19-25, 25-14, 25-18.

Next year's event will take place at the Enlow Center at St. Anthony High School.

At Effingham

At Strasburg

Stewardson-Strasburg/Windsor went out in two sets, 25-15, 25-11 over Dieterich Tuesday evening.

"We didn't start out as strong as I'd hoped being our home opener," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "Multiple errors that shouldn't have happened. Carson Cole was released to play so it was nice to see her on the floor again. We did have some nice hits but we need to work on consistency."

WSS was led by Becca Schlechte with 20 assists, Calla Roney with seven kills and Mackenzi Tabbert with eight digs. The Hatchets improved to 2-0.

Dieterich was led by Sydnie Vahling with five digs and two kills, Lauren Garbe with two kills and Hannah Hunzinger with five assists.

At Strasburg

Teutopolis picked up two victories over Marshall. The Wooden Shoes beat the Lions 25-23, 25-12 in varsity action.

Jolene Bueker led the Shoes in kills with six. Savannah Grimes had four aces, 14 points and 13 assists. Leah Jansen led in blocks with two. Macy Michels had six kills and Grace Walker had six digs.

T-town also claimed the junior varsity match 25-19, 23-25, 25-16.
