FARINA -- Effingham St. Anthony went visiting at South Central High School and suffered a volleyball loss in three sets Thursday evening.
South Central won the opener 25-21 before the Bulldogs came back with a 25-21 win to send the game into the final set. The Cougars then pulled out a 25-19 victory.
South Central was led by Rachel Bray with 12 points while Kendall Burleyson had 10 assists and six kills. She also had two aces.
The Cougars nabbed the junior varsity match 25-17, 21-25, 25-11. Baylie Maske had 18 points and two aces.
At Farina

At Moweaqua
Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg opened its volleyball season with quick wins over Moweaqua Central A&M 25-14, 25-20.
Becca Schlechte had 26 assists for the winners while Megan Schlechte led in kills with nine and aces with three.
"The girls made my job tonight very easy," said Coach Ronda Schlechte. "We played a strong game and everyone had a good night. We meshed well and played as a team.
"Central A&M really made us work for set two but we were able to take the lead at the end. A great way to start the season. I'm very pleased with what the girls did."
WSS tallied a 25-20, 25-18 junior varsity match win over Central A&M.

The Dieterich Movin' Maroons opened the season with a 25-14, 25-13 victory over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.
Lauren Garbe had six kills for the winners. Hannah Hunzinger led in assists with 12. Sydnie Vahling tallied three blocks. Aly Lane, Garbe and Hunzinger had two aces each.
CHBC then downed Dieterich in junior varsity play 25-22, 25-7.

At Teutopolis
Teutopolis and Salem went three sets before the Wooden Shoes pulled out a victory, 25-16, 24-26, 25-23 over the Wildcats Thursday.
"I was told this is the first post season victory for the Teutopolis volleyball team," said Coach Tim Mills. "It was a nice win. We were not real sharp. We had 19 unforced errors, most of them (9) coming from our hitters but our defense kept the ball in play and we were getting kills when we kept the attack in the court."
The Shoes were led by Jolene Bueker with eight kills, Jessica Drees with eight kills and three aces, Savannah Grimes with 13 assists, Theresa Niemerg with nine points and seven digs and Macy Michels with six blocks.
T-town won the junior varsity match 25-19, 22-25, 25-21. The Shoes also claimed a freshman contest 25-22, 22-25, 15-8.

North Clay (Louisville) captured a varsity victory over Odin, 25-14, 25-9.
"Tonight was a great way for the girls to open the season," said North Clay Coach Kaylee McCollum. "They all played well as a team and they really looked like they enjoyed every minute of the game, even after they made mistakes. All the girls were passing and hitting well tonight. Communication was also a key factor in tonight's win. All of the girls were talking and encouraging one another constantly."
Audrey Fleener had 16 sets and two aces while Cally Holste had 13 passes, Taylor Jones 12 hits and five blocks and Bailey Walters three kills.

Altamont fell to host Carlyle in two sets, 25-15, 25-17.
Gabby Wharton had five kills for Altamont while Hannah Paquette had seven assists. Taylor Paquette led in blocks with six and aces with three. Taylor Mette and Kaitlyn Hoene had four digs each.
In junior varsity action, Carlyle was a winner 25-11, 19-25, 25-15.
