Several area eighth-grade volleyball regionals opened play Saturday.
Class 8-1A St. Elmo Regional
Hutsonville and Edwards County (Albion) moved into the championship match of the Class 8-1A St. Elmo Regional.
In opening matches, Altamont defeated Effingham St. Anthony. The Bullpups took the first set 25-16 but Altamont came back with 25-10, 25-20 counts for the match.
St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Oblong 25-14, 25-23 in the second contest.
ALtamont advanced to face Hutsonville and fell to the top-seeded team 25-13, 25-16.
St. Elmo/Brownstown then took on second-seeded Edwards County. SEB won the opener 25-17 but Edwards County regrouped for a 25-12, 25-23 victory.
Hutsonville and Edwards County square off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday for the title match.
Class 8-2A Neoga Regional
Cowden-Herrick and Neoga moved ahead in the Class 8-2A Neoga Regional.
In the opening match, Cowden-Herrick defeated Oakland Lake Crest 25-23, 25-11. Cowden-Herrick now faces top-seeded Paris Crestwood at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
In the second contest, Neoga downed Arcola 25-10, 25-12. The third match went to Findlay Okaw Valley over Villa Grove 25-8, 25-21.
Neoga and Findlay Okaw Valley square off at 7 p.m. Tuesday.
Class 8-3A Paris Mayo Regional
Marshall handed Lawrenceville Parkview a 25-22, 25-11 loss in opening round play of the Paris Mayo Regional.
In the second match, Casey-Westfield won over Robinson Nuttall 25-16, 25-23.
Marshall will face top-seeded Jasper County at 6 p.m. Tuesday while Casey-Westfield takes on second-seeded Paris Mayo at 7 p.m.
Class 8-1A Sigel St. Michael Regional
Sigel St. Michael advanced to the championship match of its own regional Saturday.
Effingham Sacred Heart won a three-set opener over Windsor, 21-25, 25-18, 25-22. Martinsville then defeated the Shamrocks 25-15, 25-13.
In the third match, Sigel St. Michael downed Stewardson-Strasburg, 23-25, 25-21, 25-15.
The Sharpshooters now face Martinsville at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.
Class 8-1A Newton St. Thomas Regional
Grayville and West Salem eliminated both local schools in the Newton St. Thomas Regional Saturday.
Grayville defeated Dieterich 25-7, 25-13 while West Salem won over Newton St. Thomas 25-18, 25-21.
Grayville and West Salem meet Tuesday at 6 for the regional championship.
Class 8-3A Shelbyville Moulton Regional
This regional opens play Tuesday with Teutopolis meeting Sullivan at 6 p.m. followed by Cumberland facing Arthur at 7.
Class 8-4A Charleston Regional
This regional opens play Tuesday. Mattoon will meet Danville North Ridge at 4:30 p.m. followed by Charleston taking on Danville South View at 5:30.
Effingham will meet the winner of the Charleston vs. Danville South View match at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday.
