MATTOON -- Effingham Sacred Heart split victories with Mattoon St. John's Tuesday evening in junior high school volleyball competition.

The Shamrocks won the seventh-grade match 25-9, 25-8. In eighth-grade play, St. Johns was the winner. Sacred Heart won the opener 25-23 but St. Johns came back with 25-21, 25-23 counts for the match.

At Toledo

Cumberland beat visiting Dieterich in both matches.

Cumberland won the seventh-grade contest 25-8, 25-10. Dieterich drops to 2-15.

In eighth-grade play, Cumberland was a winner 25-21, 25-5. Dieterich falls to 4-13.

Stewardson Trinity came calling and claimed a seventh-grade victory over Teutopolis 25-23, 25-20. T-town falls to 7-11.

In eighth-grade play, Trinity Lutheran won 25-22, 25-19. The Shoes drop to 10-6.

At Altamont

Altamont claimed two wins over Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City.

In seventh-grade play, Altamont won 25-19, 25-9 to improve to 7-1 in the National Trail Conference, 12-7 overall.

The eighth-grade match went to Altamont in three sets.  Altamont won 26-24 before CHBC claimed a 25-19 win. Altamont then claimed the match 25-15 to improve to 3-5 in the conference, 6-13 overall.

North Clay (Louisville) lost in three sets to Cisne 25-7, 23-25, 17-15 in the eighth-grade match.

In seventh-grade action, North Clay won 25-22, 25-14.

Jasper County went three sets before pulling out a seventh-grade victory over Hutsonville/Palestine. H/P claimed the first set 25-21 before Jasper County came back wirth 25-17, 25-13 wins.

In the eighth-grade contest, Jasper County was a winner 25-17, 25-18.
