Effingham High School senior Shelby Nunamaker Thursday signed a letter of intent to play volleyball at Parkland College in Champaign this fall.

Nunamaker will play for Cobras Coach Cliff Hastings, who said he is very excited about Shelby, both on court and as a person.

Shelby's fortunes took a bit of a turn recently when she suffered an ACL tear in her left knee. She said she will undergo surgery soon and should be ready to go for the volleyball season.

Nunamaker has also played basketball and softball at EHS. She's also involved in various other activities, including the Effingham County CEO Class where she helped organize this year's CEO Experience. She plans to pursue a career in dentistry.
