Clay City Falls in Semifinals; Shelbyville Loses in 2A

Clay City saw its improbable run to a state volleyball championship fall a little short Friday morning.

Clay City lost its 1A state semifinal match to Cissna Park, 10-25, 25-23, 8-25. 

Cissna Park will meet Lanark Eastland for the state championship about 10:30am Saturday. Lanark won 25-16, 25-11 over Kewanee Wethersfield in the other semifinal.

Clay City will play for third place at 9am Saturday against Kewanee Wethersfield. Clay City is now 30-3 on the season.

Meanwhile, Shelbyville lost in the semifinals of the 2A state tournament, falling to Orion 16-25, 25-20, 20-25. Shelbyville will now play in the third place game Saturday about 12:30pm against Elmhurst Timothy Christian, who lost to Bloomington Central Catholic 22-25, 21-25. BCC will play Orion for the 2A state title around 1:30pm.

The tournaments are being played at Redbird Arena at Illinois State University.
