DECATUR -- Effingham High School not only advanced but got a big break as top-seeded Mount Zion was upset in the Class 3A Decatur Eisenhower Volleyball Regional Tuesday evening.

The Hearts took care of business by downing Monticello in two sets, 25-13, 25-21. Chandler Ramey tallied 10 kills while Sidney Webster led in assists with 12. Jennifer Fred led in aces with three. Shelby Nunamaker had two blocks and Hannah Pike had six digs.

The Hearts improve to 24-12 on the season.

In the opening match, Mahomet-Seymour upset top-seeded Mount Zion. The Braves won the opener 25-21 but Mahomet-Seymour came back to take the second set 25-23. The squad then went out with another 25-23 count.

Effingham will now face Mahomet-Seymour for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

At Decatur

Class 1A Neoga Regional

Effingham St. Anthony had a tough first set, beating Bethany Okaw Valley 25-23 but came back strong in the second set to win 25-9.

Katie Kabbes led the Bulldogs in digs with six and aces with six. Jenna Woltman had 11 assists. Marci Mills led in kills with five. Mills and Meg Richards had two blocks each.

In the opening match, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Neoga 25-11, 25-13 to improve to 27-9 on the season.

Clara Kaufman led in aces with two while Megan Schlechte had five kills. Becca Schlechte had 14 assists. Kenzi Tabbert led in digs with 10.

"It took a little bit to get warmed up in the first set but then things started coming together," said WSS Coach Ronda  Schlechte. "Clara finished the set with 11 consecutive serves. Kenzi started the second set with five straight serves to give us a good lead. We still have more in us than what we showed tonight. There is no holding back at this point in the season. Giving them eight missed serves is something that has to be corrected from here on out."

St. Anthony will now face Windsor/Stew-Stras for the regional championship Thursday at 6 p.m.

At Neoga

Class 1A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City saw its season come to a close with a loss against Raymond Lincolnwood. The Hornets fell in two sets, 25-8, 25-15.

CHBC was led by Leah Kelly with five kills and Skylar Morrison with seven assists and 11 digs.

In the second match, Mount Olive beat Nokomis, 25-22, 25-22.

Mount Olive will face Nokomis at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

At Raymond

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City -- Morrison, 7 assists, 11 digs; Johnson, 2 kills, 7 digs; Kelly, 5 kills, 7 digs; Wehrle, 3 digs; Heiserman, 3 kills, 7 digs; Kar. Clearwater, 1 block, 1 dig; Kal. Clearwater, 1 ace, 3 digs; Haslett, 1 dig; Gates, 1 dig

 

Class 1A South Central Regional

South Central moved into the championship match by downing North Clay (Louisville) Tuesday.

The Cardinals won the opening set 26-24. But South Central came clawing back with a 25-15 win and went out at 25-20. The Cougars are now 26-7 on the season.

South Cenral was led by Sidney Wilkins with 10 points, Deidra Schaal with nine kills and seven digs, Emily Chapman with 17 assists and two aces and Kendall Burleyson with two aces.

Cisne won the second match 25-17, 25-19.

South Central will face Cisne at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title.

At Farina

South Central -- Wilkins, 10 points, 1 dig; Chapman, 9 points, 4 kills, 17 assists, 2 aces, 2 digs; Schaal, 9 points, 9 kills, 7 digs, 1 ace; Rubin, 5 points, 4 kills, 5 digs; Crain, 3 points, 5 digs; Burleyson, 4 points, 7 kills, 10 assists, 2 aces; Garrett, 1 point, 3 kills, 1 stuff block, 1 ace; Germany, 7 kills

 

Class 1A Oblong Regional

St. Elmo/Brownsotwn moved into the title contest with a vicctory. SEB downed Oblong 25-15, then lost the second set 25-23 before winning 25-17.

Emily Bone, Brandi Howard and Gabi Moore led SEB in kills with nine each. Howard had three blocks. Moore had 24 digs. Sarah maxey led in assists with 30.

In the opener, Clay City defeatd Hutsonvilel 25-23, 25-12.

SEB will face Clay City at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title.

At Oblong

St. Elmo/Brownstown -- Bone, 9 kills, 2 aces, 2 blocks, 2 assists; Howard, 9 kills, 1 ace, 3 blocks, 1 assist; Moore, 9 kills, 2 aces, 24 digs; Philpot, 7 kills, 2 aces, 13 digs; Maxey, 1 kill, 2 aces, 30 assists; Carson, 1 block; Beshel, 8 digs

 

Class 2A Cumberland Regional

Teutopolis picked up a victory over Cumberland, 25-21, 25-19. Kayla Kroeger had 10 blocks and 14 kills for the Shoes while Danielle Repking added 13 digs.  Savannah Grimes led in points with 12 and had three aces. Ashley Westjohn also had three aces.

"I was told this is the first post-season victoyr for the Teuotpois volleyball team," said T-town  Coach Tim Mills. "It was anice win. We were not real sharp. We had 19 unforced errors, most of them (9) coming from our hitters but our defense kept the ball in play and we were getting kills when we kept the attack in the court. We're looking forward to the challenge Thursday night. Shelbyville has had a great season."

Shelbyville picked up a victory over Casey-Westfield 25-8, 25-23.

T-town will now meet Shelbyivlle at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.

At Toledo

Teutopolis -- Bueker, 4 blocks, 4 digs, 6 kills; Drees, 2 blocks, 1 kill, 1 assist; Grimes, 5 digs, 1 kill, 3 aces, 12 points, 11 assists; Hoene, 3 digs, 4 kills; Kingery, 4 digs, 7 points; Kreke, 8 digs, 3 points; Kroeger, 10 blocks, 11 digs, 14 kills, 2 points; Michels, 1 block, 2 kills, 1 ace; Repking, 13 digs, 2 points; Westjohn,1 block, 6 digs, 2 kills, 3 aces, 4 points, 13 assists

 

Class 2A Newton Regional

Newton moved its record to 28-7 with a win over Lawrenceville. The Eagles claimed the victories 25-17, 25-12.

Johnson led in kills with eight and digs with 11. Hartrich had 20 assists. Frohning led in blocks with two. Weber had two aces.

In the second match, Robinson ended Altamont's season, 25-20, 25-19. The Indians finish with a 10-17 record.

Laatsch and Wharton had five kills each for Altamont. Laatsch led in stuff blocks with seven. Hoene led in assists with seven. Wolff had 13 digs. 

Newton takes on Robinson at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional championship.
