Hearts Improve Apollo Volleyball Record, Area Roundup

SALEM -- Effingham High School pushed its Apollo Conference volleyball record to 8-2 on the season with a 25-17, 25-21 win over host Salem Tuesday evening.
The Hearts were led by Hanna Pike with nine assists, two blocks and eight digs, Chandler Ramey with eight kills and two blocks and Sidney Webster with two aces. The Hearts are now 22-12 overall.
EHS also claimed the junior varsity match 25-21, 25-22. The Hearts then claimed the freshman/sophomore match 25-11, 25-17, 25-17 to improve eto 10-3-3.

At St. Elmo
In the second evening of play in the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament, Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City split victories.
In the opening match, Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran downed Ramsey 25-14, 25-18. CHBC then claimed a 25-8, 25-22 win over Ramsey. Christ Our Rock Lutheran then defeated CHBC 27-25, 25-13.
The finals are scheduled for Thursday. In the consolation match, Mulberry Grove will face Ramsey at 4:30 p.m. In the second match, St. Elmo/Brownstown will take on Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 5:30. The third match features Patoka against Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 6:30. The third place match will be at 7:30 p.m. and will have the losers of matches 2 and 3 meeting. The championship is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. with the winners of matches 2 and 3.

Teutopolis handed Pana a loss Tuesday evening on Senior Night. The Wooden Shoes fell in the opener 25-20 but came back to take the second set 25-20 before winning the match 25-16.
"A really nice win on Senior Night," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "The girls had a lot of enthusiasm tonight. We started a little slow and fell behind early in set one. We got down and couldn't overcome that four point deficit but in set two and three we got ahead early and Pana could never catch us.
"Caitlyn Hoene was really good tonight. She just played with so much confidence. As a whole I liked the girls approach. They were talking to each other from the first serve. Jessica Drees attacked the last ball to finish set three but I didn't call the attack, the girls called the play on their own. A very impressive effort by the girls tonight."
Seniors for the Wooden Shoes are Justine Funneman, Caitlyn Hoene, Liz Huston, Hannah Kingery, Hannah Kreke, Kayla Kroeger, Danielle Repking and Ashley Westjohn.
Pana claimed the junior varsity match 22-25, 25-7, 25-17 and a freshman match 24-26, 25-11, 15-8.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg moved its record to 22-6 on the season with a 25-20, 25-11 win over host Tuscola.
"The girls worked through some position changes due to illness of one, but it went very smoothly," said WSS Coach Ronda Schlechte. "They all adapted well and worked together. Play is getting more consistant and the hitters are adjusting according to the setter. Still a few things to work on before Mount Pulaski Tournament Saturday but really looking forward to our last tough competition before regionals."
Windsor/Stew-Stras claimed the junior varsity match 21-25, 26-24, 15-13 to improve to 14-1. Tuscola won the freshman/sophomore contest 25-16, 25-20. WSS is 10-4-2.
