EHS Beats Altamont, Area Volleyball Roundup

Effingham High School claimed a non-conference volleyball win over Altamont Monday evening.

The Hearts won in two, 25-17, 25-12 to improve to 21-12 on the season. Jennifer Fred, Shelby Nunamaker and Chandler Ramey had 10 kills each. Sidney Webster led in assists with 13. Fred had three aces. Nunamaker led in blocks with three. Micaela Chrappa had 13 digs.

Laatsch led Altamont in kills with three and stuff blocks with three. Hoene and H. Paquette had two assists each. Winters and K. Wolff had six digs each.

The Hearts also claimed the junior varsity match 25-9, 25-20. Altamont took the freshman/sophomore match 27-25, 20-25, 10-7.

Effingham St. Anthony dropped a three-set match to Olney. The Tigers won the opener 25-15 before St. Anthony came back with a 25-16 score. Olney then claimed the match 25-11.

The Bulldogs were led by Raven Rincker with nine digs, Jenna Woltman with 22 assists, Hannah Will with 10 kills and four blocks and Sophie Moore with three aces.

In junior varsity play, Olney claimed a win 25-11, 25-19.

Newton claimed a non-conference win over Dieterich Monday evening, 25-11, 25-18.

The Eagles were led by Hartrich with 24 assists and two aces, Cohorst with 10 kills and three digs and Pilman with three digs. Newton improves to 26-7 on the season.

In junior varsity play, Newton won 25-17, 25-14.

St. Elmo/Brownstown defeated Mulberry Grove and Patoka in opening round play of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament.

SEB downed Mulberry Grove 25-6, 25-17 and then beat Patoka 25-6, 25-17. Patoka won over Mulberry Grove 25-15, 27-25.

SEB was led by Gabi Moore with 17 kills for the two matches, Sarah Maxey with 11 aces and 41 assists and Kandice Beshel with eight digs.

The tourney continues tonight as Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran faces Ramsey at 6 p.m. and Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City at 8. CHBC takes on Ramsey at 7.
