St. A Celebrates Senior Night With Win, EHS Downs League-Leading Mount Zion

Effingham St. Anthony High School celebrated Senior Night by downing Vandalia in volleyball competition Tuesday.

The Bulldogs won the opener 25-19 before Vandalia came back with a 27-25 count. St. A then went out at 25-22.

Three seniors, Aly Esker, Isabel Moore and Raven Rincker, were honored on Senior Night. Rincker led in digs with 14 while Jenna Woltman had 24 assists. Leading in kills was Marci Mills with nine and blocks with five. Esker and Woltman had two aces each.

In junior varsity play, Vandalia was a winner 25-23, 25-20. St. Anthony took the freshman/sophomore match 25-12, 25-16, 25-7.

At Mount Zion

Effingham picked up a big Apollo Conference victory over league-leading Mount Zion Tuesday.

The games went 26-24, 26-24 but the Hearts stayed strong to pull out the victory. Chandler Ramey led the Hearts in kills with 11. Sidney Webster had 13 assists. EHS was strong at the net with 15 blocks. Shelby Nunamaker led the way with five while Hannah Pike had four, Chloe Martin three and Ramey three. Jennifer Fred had 11 digs.

The Hearts improve to 6-2 in the conference, 14-12 overall.

In junior varsity action, Mount Zion was the winner 23-25, 25-20, 25-22 and a freshman/sophomore match 25-18, 15-25, 10-6.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis picked up a National Trail Conference win over Altamont 25-18, 25-10.

"It was a nice night by the varsity," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "We made some changes with the lineup in set one and it took a little while to get the offense going. We went back to the normal alignment in set two and they responded with a pretty dominate effort. Altamont did a real nice job of blocking our middles but Jolene Bueker recorded 10 kills to lead the team."

The Wooden Shoes were led by Bueker with 10 kills, Savannah Grimes with four aces, Kayla Kroeger with four blocks, Danielle Repking with 12 digs and Ashley Westjohn with seven points and seven assists.

The Indians were led by Laatsch with four kills, Paquette with four assists and four digs and Hoene with four digs.

Altamont claimed the junior vasrity match 25-22, 25-18 and the freshman contest 17-25, 25-9, 15-8.

Dieterich picked up a National Trail Conference victory over Neoga. Neoga won the opener 26-24 but the Maroons came back with 25-15, 25-22 scores for the win.

Mikayla Winters led in kills with 10 for the Maroons. Hannah Hunzinger had eight acces, 10 digs and 11 assists. Faith Boerngen had 11 assists. Lauren Garbe had four blocks.

At Neoga

Cowden-Herrick/Beecher City captured a victory on Senior Night over Patoka.

The Hornets won 25-21, 25-14. Leah Kelly led the winners in kills with five and blocks with two. Timber Gates had four aces. Skylar Morrison led in assists with four. Kallie Clearwater had nine digs.

Seniors honored were Leah Kelly, Acacia Kresin, Angel Haslett, Kallie Clearwater, Liz Reed, Jade Heiserman and Timber Gates.

At Beecher City

In a non-conference matchup, Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg downed Sullivan, 25-6, 25-18. The Hatchets improve to 18-6 on the season.

Kenzi Tabbert led the way with five aces. Maria Gentry had five kills while Jocelyn Schultz had nine assists. Autumn Bennett led in digs with nine.

WSS also nabbed the junior varsity match 25-17, 25-8 to improve to 13-1 and a freshman/sophomore contest 25-7, 25-17 to improve to 10-3-2.

South Central suffered a non-conference loss to Centralia 25-22, 25-22.

Kendall Burleyson led the Cougars with eight points, one ace, four kills, 10 assists and two digs. Emily Chapman had eight points, one ace, four kills, 11 assists, one dig and one stuff block. Deidra Schaal had five kills. The Cougars fall to 21-5.

In junior varsity action, Centralia won 25-12, 25-21. South Central drops to 9-4. Centralia also nabbed the freshman/sophomore contes 25-12, 25-21. South Central is 2-3-2.
