EHS Beats Salem, T-town Downs Bulldogs, Area Volleyball Roundup

Effingham High School hosted Salem in Apollo Conference volleyball action Thursday and sent the Wildcats home with a 25-17, 25-15 loss.
Chandler Ramey had a whopping 15 kills for the Hearts and six digs while Sidney Webster led in assists with 13 and digs with six. Hannah Pike added 12 assists and six digs. Shelby Nunamaker had two blocks. Micaela Chrappa also had six digs.
EHS also won the junior varsity match 25-22, 25-13 to improve to 7-4 and won the freshman/sophomore contest 25-11, 25-14 and is 8-1-1.

At St. Anthony
Teutopolis tallied a win over Effingham St. Anthony. The contest went three games as St. Anthony won the opener 25-19. T-town came back with 25-15, 25-19 victories.
"That makes seven consecutive wins for the varsity," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "Set one was rough. We couldn't keep the attack on the court. You won't win too many sets when you have 10 hitting errors. The St. Anthony girls played good defense and dug a lot of balls we hit pretty good. In sets two and three, we were in control. The hitters began finding the floor and our blockers took over the net. It was a nice match. Both teams were very aggressive. And there were several long hard fought volleys."
The Shoes were led by Kayla Kroeger with nine blocks, Marci Michels with nine kills, Danielle Repking with 10 digs and Ashley Westjohn with 13 assists.
The Bulldogs were led by Taylor Dammerman with 13 digs, Jenna Woltman with 13 assists, Hannah Will with seven kills and two aces and Isabel Moore and Marci Mills with two blocks each.
St. Anthony won the JV match 25-20, 21-25, 25-21. The two squads tied in freshman/sophomore play as St. Anthony won 26-24 and T-town won 25-23.

Neoga came calling and claimed a National Trail Conference victory over Beecher City/Cowden-Herrick.
The Indians won the opener 25-10 before CHBC came back with a 25-14 count. Neoga then went out at 25-18.
Mary Hill led the Indians in kills with 11. Bayley Neece had three aces. Jaycie Roy led in blocks with two and assists with 12. Nikki Miah had 10 digs.
CHBC was led by Felicia Johnson in aces with two. Leah Kelly had six kills. Kallie Clearwater had eight digs. Skylar Morrison led in assists with 12.
Neoga also won the junior varsity match 22-25, 25-10, 25-23.

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg claimed a non-conference victory over Mulberry Grove, 25-12, 25-11, to improve to 12-4 on the season.
"The girls were thrown into new positions once again with the absence of senior Autumn Bennett, who was out of town," said WSS Coach Rhonda Schlechte. "The team is very flexible with working different positions and it will help them grow as individual players. Tonight they looked very confident and made for some nice plays. We are working several in setting positions to see what is going to work better in the long run."
Jocelyn Schultz had four aces and 12 assists for the winners. Megan Schlechte had nine kills. Kenzi Tabbert and Carson Cole had three digs each.
WSS nabbed the junior varsity contest 25-9, 21-25, 26-24 to improve to 10-1.

Newton was a winner in varsity competition over Robinson, 25-13, 23-25, 25-15 to improve to 19-4 on the season.
Bergbower led in aces with four. Johnson had six kills and 13 digs. Hartrich led in assists with 21. Earnest led in blocks with four.
Newton won the junior vasrity match 25-21, 25-17. Robinson claimed the freshman contest 25-19, 14-25, 13-7.

The Wolves improve to 17-2 on the season. Clay City also claimed the JV match 25-15, 25-15.
At Toledo
Cumberland defeated Palestine/Hutsonville in Little Okaw Valley competition. The Pirates are 5-11 overall.
Claire Guyon and Saide Oakley had six kills each. Guyon led in assists with 14. Danae Sowers led in digs with 13. Maekayla Sowers had six blocks.
The Pirates won the junior varsity match 25-14, 25-19.
