Wooden Shoes Beat North Clay, Area Volleyball Roundup

TEUTOPOLIS -- Teutopolis High School handed North Clay (Louisville) a volleyball loss in two games, 25-16, 25-14 Monday evening.

"The varsity looked pretty good tonight," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "We had a definite height advantage and the setters and hitters did a nice job of using that. North Clay's serve receive didn't allow many aces but we did get several freeballs off of our serves and the offense converted the majority of those into points."

Savannah Grimes led in points with nine, had two aces and finished with 15 assists. Kayla Kroeger had nine kills, 10 digs and four blocks.

North Clay won the junior varsity contest 25-21, 25-18.

Altamont defeated Ramey in a non-conference contest, 25-19, 26-24.

Laatsch led the winners in kills with seven. Paquette had 11 assists. Winters led in digs with four while Wahrton had five aces. The Indians improve to 7-9 overall.

In the junior varsity match, Altamont was a 25-4, 25-10 winner.

Cumberland came calling and claimed a 25-22, 25-19 non-conference win over Dieterich.

Mikayka Winters led the Movin' Maroons in kills with six, six digs and three aces. Hannah Hunzinger led in assists with eight. Lauren Garbe had two blocks.

Shelbyville handed Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg a non-conference loss. WSS opened with a 25-20 victory but Shelbyville came back 25-12, 25-15 to pull out the match win.

"We came out and played so well in set one," said WSS Coach Rhonda Schlechte. ""We were able to work around the block and we just played pretty solid. Set two was a different story. Serve receive hurt us in the beginning followed by multiple hitting errors trying to get around the block. Shelbyville made some nice adjustments and it really hurt us. We have to learn from tonight's mistakes to get better."

Autumn Bennett and Clara Kaufman led in kills with eight each. Kenzi Tabbert had 17 assists. Carson Cole led in digs with 12.

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up a victory over Patoka 25-15, 25-16 to improve to 4-0 in the Egyptian-Illini Conference and 11-9 overall.

Gabi Moore had six kills for SEB while Tessa Philpot had four aces. Brandi Howard had three blocks. Sarah Maxey led in assists with 16.

Newton handed Salem a 25-14, 25-7 defeat to improve to 17-4 overall.

Johnson had five kills and two aces for the Eagles. Hartrich led in assists with 15. Kline led in digs with five and blocks with one.

Salem won the junior varsity match 21-25, 25-22, 25-19 and also the freshman contest 25-17, 27-25.
