Bulldogs Pick Up Win, Volleyball Roundup

Effingham St. Anthony played host to Odin and claimed a volleyball victory, 25-8, 25-14 Thursday evening at the Enlow Center.

Taylor Dammerman led the Bulldogs with 12 digs. Marci Mills had six kills and four aces. Jenna Woltman led in assists with nine.

At St. Anthony

At Strasburg

Windsor/Stewardson-Strasburg remained unbeaten by downing Altamont 25-11, 25-17. WSS is now 2-0 in the National Trail Conference, 4-0 overall.

Autumn Bennett and Kenzi Tabbert led the winners in kills with five each. Becca Schlechte had 13 assists. Bennett and Megan Schlechte led in digs with five each. Bennett, Schlechte, Clara Kaufman and Maria Gentry had two aces each.

"I want to thank all the fans for supporting us at our first home match," said WSS Coach Rhonda Schlechte. "The girls were super pumped by the huge turnout."

Laatsch led Altamont in kills with two, assists with two and digs with two.

WSS also claimed the junior varsity match, 25-20, 25-14 to improve to 4-0. Altamont won the freshman/sophomore match 25-22, 21-25, 25-21.

At Clay City

South Central picked up a victory over Clay City in two games, 25-12, 25-10 and now stands at 7-1 overall.

Kendall Burleyson tallied 11 points, four aces, four digs and 15 assists for the Cougars. Deidre Schaal had nine kills and four digs. 

South Central also won the junior varsity match 25-23, 19-25, 26-24 to improve to 3-1.

At Clay City

AtTeutopolis

St. Elmo/Brownstown handed Teutopolis a loss. SEB won the opener 25-21 but T-town came back with a 25-18 victory. SEB then claimed the match 25-23.

"The St. Elmo/Brownstown girls played really well," said T-town Coach Tim Mills. "They are always scrappy. We just couldn't get the attack through them. We continue to make too many unforced errors. Fourteen service errors contributed to our demise."

SEB also claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-13, 25-23. T-town's freshman won 26-24, 11-25, 15-9.

 

At Patoka

Dieterich picked up a non-conference win over Patoka in two games, 25-12, 25-11.

Leading the Movin' Maroons were Sydnie Vahling with six aces, Hanna Ruholl with four digs, Hannah Hunzinger with 10 assists, Laruen Garbe with six blocks and Mikayla Winters with four digs.

At Newton

Newton handed Edwards County (Albion) a loss in two games, 25-22, 25-19 to improve to 8-3 on the season.

Johnson led the Eagles in kills with six. Hartrich had 17 assists and eight digs. Cohorst put up two blocks.

Newton also won the junior varsity match 25-21, 25-23. Edwards County claimed the freshman match 25-15, 25-16.

Shelbyville hosted Cumberland and won in two sets, 25-14, 25-15. Skylar Brumelve led Cumberland in kills with four. Maekayla Sowers had five blocks. 

Saide Oakley led in digs with seven. Mattison Green led in assists with eight.

Shelbyville won the junior varsity match, 25-8, 25-17.
