BROWNSTOWN -- Effingham St. Anthony High School downed Brownstown in National Trail Conference volleyball play Thursday.

The Bulldogs won the opener with a close 26-24 score and then took the match 25-16. Haily Mathis led in kills with eight and had six digs, nine assists and two blocks. Kassy Dammerman had 13 digs. Lauren Schmidt had six aces. The Bulldogs are now 11-5 on the season.

In junior varsity play, St. Anthony was a winner 25-17, 25-20.

At Teutopolis

Teutopolis High School played host to Neoga in Volley for a Cure Night and picked up a victory in three games.

Neoga won the opener 25-21 but T-town came back with 25-15 and 25-21 victories for the match. Natalie Summers led in kills with eight. Lucy Niemerg had three aces, four kills, seven digs and a block while Morgan Breer had five digs. Katelyn Ruholl had 15 assists.

T-town also claimed the junior varsity match 25-19, 25-20. Neoga picked up a freshman/sophomore match 25-23, 15-25, 20-15.

T-town is back in action Saturday in the Newton/St. Anthony Tournament.

Cowden-Herrick lost the opener but came back with the next two wins to down Beecher City in varsity action.

Beecher City went out at 25-22 in the opener. The Hornets then came back to win 25-15 and 25-13 for the match.

Beecher City was led by Kacie Hilt, Taylor Danekas and Kirby Herrmann with two aces each. Danekas had 13 digs. Kirsten Buzzard led in kills with seven. Hilt led in assists with 14.

At St. Elmo

Stewardson-Strasburg pushed its National Trail Conference record to 4-0 and its overall mark to 7-4 with a 26-24, 25-20 win over St. Elmo.

"Communication was key tonight," said Coach Rhonda Schlechte. "We were able to capitalize on St. Elmo's errors and put the ball down quickly. Mariah led with a couple strong serving streaks and Brittani led at the net. Still things to improve on but very pleased with the win."

Kelsei Walden led the winners in assists with 19. Brittani Tabbert had eight digs and eight kills. Kendall Knop led in aces with three.

At St. Elmo

South Central picked up a victory over Dieterich, 25-14, 25-9. Dieterich drops to 2-4 with the loss.

Dieterich was led by Shelby Wendling with nine assists, Landriah Hardiek with four digs, Candace Niemerg with five kills and Madison Boerngen with three points.

In junior varsity play, South Central won 25-14, 25-1. Dieterich drops to 2-4.

Windsor defeated Altamont in National Trail Conference play, 25-21, 25-20. Altamont was led by Kopplin in kills with four, M. Ohnesorge and Wendling with four assists and Ledbetter, M. Ohnesorge and White with three digs each. The Indians drop to 0-4 in the conference, 1-8 overall.

Windsor also picked up the junior varsity contest 25-23, 25-19.

Newton picked up a victory in three sets over Casey-Westfield. The Warriors won the opening game 25-16 but Newton came back with 25-23, 25-21 wins.

Gabby Zerrusen led the Eagles in aces with three and assists with 12. Megan Jansen had 12 assists. Morgan Swingler le din digs with 25 while Keidrah Hardiek added 18 and  Andrea Cartright 13. Hardiek had nine kills. Sydney May had six solo blocks.

Edwards County (Albion) defeated Cumberland 25-12, 25-20. Leading Cumberland were Kamisha Holsapple with 12 assists, Kassidy Hunt with six kills, Olivia Titus with four digs and Melissa Myers with two aces.

Edwards County also claimed the junior varsity contest, 25-9, 25-17.
