Vandalia Claims Altamont Tourney Title

ALTAMONT -- Vandalia High School captured the championshp of the Altamont Volleyball Tournament Saturday.
In Pool B play, Vandalia defeated Beecher City, 25-10, 25-8; South Central defeated Lincolnwood, 25-19, 25-13; South Central defeated Beecher City, 25-15, 25-23; Vandalia defeated Lincolnwood, 25-16, 25-17; Lincolnwood defeated Beecher City, 25-15, 25-6 and Vandalia defeated South Central, 26-28, 25-19, 17-15.
In Pool A action, Cumberland defeated Altamont, 25-27 28-26, 15-8; Greenville defeated Nokomis, 23-25, 25-21, 15-6; Altamont defeated Nokomis, 25-21, 25-12; Cumberland defeated Greenville, 22-25, 25-21, 18-16; Cumberland defeated Nokomis, 25-21, 22-25, 15-12 and Greenville defeated Altamont, 25-17, 25-23.
In the first place match, Vandalia downed Cumberland, 25-9, 24-26, 15-12. South Central won third place over Greenville, 20-25, 25-13, 17-15. Lincolnwood claimed fifth place over Altamont, 25-21, 16-25, 15-8 and Nokomis picked up the seventh-place win over Beecher City, 25-17, 25-17.
"The girls performed well, with lots of close games and tough competition," said Cumberland Coach Talia Moore. "It was a great team effort all day. The girls really played as a team. It's so great to see that our bench is just as enthusiastic about the game as the girls on the floor."

MONDAY MATCH
Cumberland downed Martinsville in Monday evening competition. The Pirates won the opener 25-10 but Martinsville came back with a 25-21 victory. Cumberland then tallied a 27-25 win for the match.
Kamisha Holsapple had 24 assists and 16 digs for the winners. Olivia Titus had 11 points and three aces along with seven kills. Kassidy Hunt had 10 kills.
