Effingham Junior High School captured the championship of its own Class 8-4A Volleyball Regional Thursday evening.

The Mustangs claimed the opener with a close 26-24 score. Mattoon came back to pick up a 25-19 victory. Effingham then rallied for a 25-13 win and the regional championship.

Effingham advances with a 17-4 record to face Champaign Edison, a 25-20, 25-23 winner over Mahomet-Seymour, at the Tolono Unity Sectional Monday at 6 p.m.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham -- Douthit, 5 kills, 2 aces, 2 digs; Funneman, 2 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, 8 digs; Fox, 1 kill, 7 assists, 1 block, 8 aces, 4 digs; Fearday, 4 kills, 12 assists, 2 aces, 5 digs; Buscher, 4 kills, 2 blocks, 3 digs; Kuhlman, 7 kills, 1 dig; Schafer, 1 assist, 2 aces, 2 digs

 

The Altamont eighth-grade volleyball team won the Class 2A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional Thursday. Members of the team are, first row, left to right, Jada Suckow, Jayci Quast, Katie Grimsley, Tinley Mette, Marlee Nolen, Caitlyn White, Mackenzie Brewer and Courtney Rhodes. Class 8-1A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Altamont had to pick up two victories Thursday evening to win the Lincolnwood Regional championship.

Altamont downed Cowden-Herrick 25-16, 25-15 in the opening match. Raymond Lincolnwood then beat St. Elmo/Brownstown 25-11, 25-13.

In the title contest, Altamont won over Raymond Lincolnwood 25-14, 25-7 and advances to the Raymond Lincolnwood Sectional Monday to face Mount Olive, a 25-22, 25-21 winner over Palmyra Northwestern, at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional

Neoga saw its season come to a close at the hands of Oakland Lake Crest.

Oakland picked up 25-4, 25-11 victories. Oakland will advance to face Edwards County (Albion) at the Effingham St. Anthony Sectional Monday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Jasper County was a winner in the Robinson Nuttall Regional Thursday evening.

Jasper County defeated Casey-Westfield 25-18, 25-15 to advance to the sectional Monday at Cumberland. Jasper County will face Tuscola East Prairie at 6 p.m. Tuscola East Prairie won the Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional by beating Arthur 25-18, 25-19.

Class 8-3A Robinson Nutall Regional

Jasper County -- Bergbower, 2 points, 2 aces, 1 assist, 4 kills; Carr, 1 point, 1 dig; Goss, 1 kill; Kuhn, 3 assists; Pitcher, 6 points, 1 ace, 1 kill, 2 digs; Rice, 10 points, 5 aces, 1 kill, 1 dig; Russell, 3 points, 1 ace, 4 assists, 1 kill, 2 digs; Weidner, 14 points, 9 aces, 3 kills

 

Class 8-1A West Salem Regional

There was no score reported on the Newton St. Thomas vs. Grayville contest for this regional championship Thursday evening.
