Effingham advanced in its own Class 8-4 volleyball regional to the championship match after action Wednesday evening.

The Mustangs defeated Danville North Ridge 25-16, 25-13.

In the opening match, Mattoon beat Tolono Unity 25-12, 25-14. Mattoon will now meet Effingham at 4:30 p.m. today for the regional champioinship. The winner will advance to the Tolono Unity Sectional Monday.

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Effingham -- Douthit, 4 kills, 1 assist, 4 digs; Funneman, 2 kills, 5 aces, 8 digs; Fox, 1 kill, 3 assists, 1 ace, 4 digs; Fearday, 3 kills, 13 assists, 4 aces, 2 digs; Buscher, 6 kills, 1 block, 4 digs; Kuhlman, 5 kills, 1 assist, 2 digs; Schafer, 1 ace

 

Class 8-2A St. Anthony Regional

Effingham St. Anthony saw its season come to a close with a loss to Edwards County (Albion) in the championship match Wednesday.

Edwards County won in two games, 25-16, 25-22. Edwards County advances to the St. Anthony Sectional Monday at 6 p.m. to take on either Neoga or Oakland Lake Crest. Those two teams play tonight for the regional championship at Paris Crestwood.

Class 8-2A  St. Anthony Regional

St. Anthony -- Gibson, 1 kill; Jones, 1 kill, 1 blolck, 1 ace; Kabbes, 1 assist, 3 kills; Kinkelaar, 1 dig, 3 kills, 1 block; Moore, 7 assists, 1 block; Richards, 1 dig, 1 assist, 2 kills, 1 block, 1 ace; Zeller, 1 dig

 

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

Both local squads fell in the Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional Wednesday evening.

Teutopolis lost to Tuscola East Prairie 25-16, 25-9. In the opening match Arthur defeated Shelbyville Moulton 25-17, 25-22.

Arthur will now face Tuscola East Prairie at 6 p.m. today for the regional championship. The winner advances to the Cumberland Sectional to take on the Robinson Nuttall Regional winner.

 

Other Regionals

In other regional title matches tonight, Newton St. Thomas faces Grayville at 6 p.m. in the Class 8-1A West Salem Regional.

Jasper County squares off against Casey-Westfield in the championship of the Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional.

There are three matches on tap at the Class 8-2A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional. In the opener, Altamont faces Cowden-Herrick at 5:30 p.m. followed by  St. Elmo/Brownstown against Raymond Lincolnwood 20 minutes after that match.

The championship is scheduled for 20 minutes after the second contest.
