Stewardson-Strasburg claimed the championship of the Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Volleyball Regional Wednesday evening.
Stew-Stras defeated Windsor 25-21, 25-10 and advances to the Effingham Sacred Heart Sectional Monday, March 16 to face the winner of the West Salem Regional, either Newton St. Thomas or Grayville, at 6 p.m.
Class 1A West Salem Regional
Grayville and Newton St. Thomas will meet for the regional championship after winning Tuesday evening.
Grayville defeated Martinsville 25-9, 25-14 in the opening match. The second contest went to Newton St. Thomas over West Salem 9-25, 25-22, 25-13.
The two squads will meet for the regional championship at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Class 8-2A St. Anthony Regional
Effingham St. Anthony and Edwards County (Albion) advanced from the St. Anthony Regional Tuesday evening.
Edwards County downed Hutsonville 25-17, 25-17 in the opening match.
st. Anthony then defeated Oblong 25-17, 25-19. The Bullpups will now meet Edwards County at 6 p.m. today for the regional title and the right to advance to their own sectional Monday.
Class 8-2A St. Anthony Regional
St. Anthony -- Gibson, 3 aces; Jones, 2 kills, 2 aces; Kabbes, 2 kills, 2 blocks; Kinkelaar, 2 kills; Moore, 10 assists, 3 aces; Richards, 5 kills, 4 aces
Class 8-2A Paris Crestwood Regional
Oakland Lake Crest claimed victory over host Paris Crestwood 25-15, 25-16 in the opening match Tuesday evening.
The second match went to Neoga over Findlay Okaw Valley. Okaw Valley won the opener 25-22 but Neoga came back with 25-12, 25-17 victories for the win.
Neoga now faces Oakland Lake Crest at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title.
Class 8-2A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional
There's was no action Tuesday evening but play in this regional will continue and finish Thursday, all in one evening.
Altamont will face Cowden-Herrick at 5:30 p.m. followed by St. Elmo/Brownstown against Raymond Lincolnwood 20 minutes after the opening match. Then 20 minutes after this match, the winners square off for the regional championship.
Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional
Jasper County will be playing for this regional title after picking up a victory Tuesday evening.
Jasper County downed Paris Mayo 25-23, 25-14. In the opening match, Casey-Westfield won over Robinson Nuttall 25-17, 25-16.
Jasper County and Casey-Westfield square off Thursday at 6 p.m. for the championship.
Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional
Jasper County -- Angel, 1 point, 1 ace; Bergbower, 3 points, 2 aces, 4 kills, 3 digs; Carr, 3 points, 1 ace; Goss, 1 kill, 1 dig; Hartke, 2 kills; Kuhn, 5 assists, 1 kill; Pitcher, 12 points, 2 aces; Rice, 6 points, 4 aces, 1 assist; Russell, 2 points, 2 assists, 1 kill; Schoonover, 1 kill, 1 dig; Weidner, 7 points, 6 aces, 2 kills, 1 block
Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional
Teutopolis handed Sullivan a 25-23, 25-18 loss Tuesday evening. In the opening match, Arthur defeated Cumberland 25-16, 25-14.
Shelbyville Moulton will now face Arthur at 6 p.m. today while Teutopolis takes on Tuscola East Prairie 20 minutes after the opener. The two winners advance to the reiognal champoinship Thursday at 6 p.m.
Class 8-4A Effingham Regional
Tonight's matches feature Mattoon against Tolono Unity at 4:30 p.m. followed by Effingham taking on Danville North Ridge at 5:45 p.m.
The winners advance to the championship match Thursday at 4:30 p.m.
