Eighth-grade volleyball regionals got started around the state Saturday.

Class 8-1A Effingham Sacred Heart Regional

Windsor and Stewardson-Strasburg advanced to the championship match of the Sacred Heart Regional.

Windsor opened with a 25-7, 25-11 win over Beecher City. Windsor, seeded fourth, then defeated top-seeded Effingham Sacred Heart. The Shamrocks won the opening game 25-13 before Windsor came back 25-17 and 27-25 for the match.

Stewardson-Strasburg, seeded second, then defeated third-seeded Sigel St. Michael 26-24, 25-17.

Stew-Stras will meet Windsor at 6 p.m. tonight for the regional title.

Class 8-1A Sacred Heart Regional

Sacred Heart -- Carie, 6 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, 3 digs, 1 block, 3 points; Koester, 3 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs, 3 points; M. Bushue, 1 assist, 1 ace, 2 digs, 12 points; Stock, 7 kills, 11 assists, 5 aces, 5 digs, 5 points; Webster, 7 kills, 1 assist, 2 aces, 6 digs, 12 points; Feldhake, 1 kill, 2 assists, 1 ace, 2 digs, 2 points

 

Class 8-2A Raymond Lincolnwood Regional

Cowden-Herrick and St. Elmo/Brownstown advanced from first round play.

Cowden-Herrick defeated Ramsey 25-11, 25-22 and will now face Altamont at 5:30 p.m. Thursday.

St. Elmo/Brownstown won over Nokomis 25-20, 25-14. SEB will meet Raymond Lincolnwood at 6:45 p.m. Thursday.

The winners of those two contests will meet at 8 p.m. for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-2A Effingham St. Anthony Regional

Hutsonville picked up the victory in the lone match played Saturday in this regional.

Hutsonville, seeded fourth, defeated fifth-seeded Dieterich 25-21, 25-20. Hutsonville will now take on top-seeded Edwards County (Albion) at 6 p.m. today. St. Anthony faces Oblong at 7:15 p.m. today.

The winners of tonighit's contests face each other Wednesday for the regional championship.

 

Class 2A Paris Crestwood Regional

Paris Crestwood defeated Villa Grove in the opening match 25-16, 25-10. The winners now face Oakland Lake Crest at 6 p.m. today.

In the second match Saturday, Neoga was a 25-19, 25-9 winner over Arcola and will face Findlay Okaw Valley at 6:45 p.m. today.

The winners of tonight's matches will meet Thursday for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Robinson Nuttall Regional

Casey-Westfield handed Marshall a 25-10, 25-12 loss in Saturday opening round play at this regional. Casey-Westfield now faces Robinson Nuttall at 6 p.m. today.

In the second match Saturday, Paris Mayo won over Lawrenceville Parkview, 25-11, 25-9. Paris Mayo faces Jasper County at 7 p.m. today.

The winners then meet Thursday for the regional championship at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-4A Effingham Regional

Tolono Unity and Danville North Ridge were opening round winners in Saturday action.

Tolono Unity defeated Charleston 25-14, 16-25, 25-15. Danville North Ridge won over Danville South View 25-13, 25-10.

Tolono Unity meets Mattoon at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday while Danville North Ridge faces Effingham at 5:45 p.m. The winners then meet Thursday at 4:30 p.m. for the regional championship.

 

Class 8-1A West Salem Regional

This regional opens play tonight. Grayville takes on Martinsville at 6 p.m. followed by Newton St. Thomas facing West Salem at 7 p.m.

The winners will meet for the regional title Thursday at 6 p.m.

 

Class 8-3A Sullivan Regional

This regional opens competition tonight. Cumberland will face Arthur at 6 p.m. followed by Teutopolis taking on Sullivan 20 minutes after the first match.

The winners will advance to face top-seeded Shelbyville Moulton at 6 p.m. Wednesday and second-seeded Tuscola East Prairie 20 minutes after that match. Those two winners face off for the regional title at 6 p.m. Thursday.
