Trinity Captures St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tourney Title

Stewardson Trinity captured the championship of the St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Volleyball Tournament. Stewardson Trinity got first in pool play at the Effingham St. Anthony Eighth-Grade Tournament by defeating Windsor, 20-8, 20-11, Newton St. Thomas, 20-14, 20-13 and North Clay, 20-8, 20-5.  

In the championship match, the Cardinals beat Stewardson-Strasburg, 20-10, 20-10 to take first place. The Cardinals are now 12-0 for the eighth-grade team. Trinity will compete in the Effingham Seventh-Grade Tournament Saturday, February 14.

In other scores on the West Court, St. Anthony beat Stew-Stras 21-19, 20-13, Our Lady Of Lourdes beat Holy Cross, 20-16, 20-7, Stew-Stras beat Our Lady Of Lourdes 20-18, 20-18, St. Anthony beat Holy Cross 20-16, 20-16, Stew-Stras beat Holy Cross 20-11, 20-18 and St. Anthony beat Our Lady Of Lourdes 20-17, 20-16.

In other scores on the East Court, Newton St. Thomas beat North Clay, 16-20, 20-15, 15-10, Windsor beat North Clay 20-14, 12-20, 15-13 and St. Thomas beat Windsor 20-16, 21-19.

In championship play, St. Thomas defeated St. Anthony 20-14, 20-10 for third place. Our Lady Of Lourdes defeated Windsor 20-15, 20-13 for fifth place and North Clay won over Holy Cross 15-20, 10-13, 15-11 for seventh place.

At Effingham Sacred Heart

In the Seventh-Grade Shamrock Showdown, Altamont defeated Sacred Heart 25-8, 25-12; Sigel St. Michael won over St. John 25-3, 25-10; Sigel St. Michael defeated Altamont 25-7, 26-24; Sacred Heart won over St. John 25-21, 25-7; Sigel St. Michael downed Sacred Heart 25-19, 25-6 and Altamont beat St. John 25-21, 25-20.

First place went to Sigel St. Michael, second place to Altamont, third place to Sacred Heart and fourth place to  St. John's.

In the Eighth-Grade Shamrock Shodown, Altamont won over Sacred Heart, 25-22, 25-19; St. John defeated Sigel St. Michael 25-17, 25-13; Altamont downed Sigel St. Michael 25-4, 18-25, 15-12; Sacred Heart beat St. John 28-26, 23-25, 15-5; Sacred Heart defeated Sigel St. Michael 25-13, 25-9 and Altamont defeated St. John 25-19, 20-25, 15-13.

Altamont claimed first place followed by Sacred Heart, St. John and Sigel St. Michael.
