Volleyball Regionals Set To Begin Monday

This is the last week for regular season volleyball competition before regionals begin Monday around the area.

Effingham St. Anthony High School drew the No. 1 seed in the Class 2A Marshall Regional. The Bulldogs will face the winner of the Casey-Westfield (4) vs. Marshall (5) match that will be played Monday at 5:30 p.m. The Bulldogs play Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. No. 3 Teutopolis faces No. 6 Cumberland at 6:30 p.m. Monday. Kansas Co-op, seeded second, will meet the winner of the T-town vs. Cumberland match at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday. The Tuesday winners advance to the title match scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Neoga will be hosting a Class 1A regional. The Indians drew the No. 5 seed and will be playing on opening night Monday at 6 p.m. against No. 4 seeded Bethany Okaw Valley.

Tuesday's matches will feature top-seeded Stewardson-Strasburg against the winner of the opening night match at 5:30 followed by No. 2 Windsor taking on No.3  Arcola at 6:30. The championship is scheduled for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

The other five Class 1A teams will be competing in three different regionals. North Clay (Louisville) will travel to Wayne City for a 6 p.m. match against Grayville Monday. The Cardinals are seeded fourth while Grayville drew the No. 5 seed. Top-seeded Cisne will take on the winner of that match Tuesday at 5:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Wayne City against No. 3 Clay City at 6:30 p.m. The championship is scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.

South Central will take part in the Class 1A Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran Regional. The Cougars drew the No. 2 seed and will play Tuesday evening against the winner of the (3) Christ Our Rock Lutheran vs. (6) Webber Township (Bluford) match that will be contested Monday at 6:30. The opening match Monday will feature No. 4 Sandoval against No. 5 Odin at 5:30. The second match Tuesday will have No. 1 Woodlawn facing the winner of that match at 5:30.  The title contest is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Hutsonville will play host to a Class 1A regional featuring No. 5 Beecher City, No. 2 Cowden-Herrick and No. 3 Dieterich. Beecher City meets No. 4 Hutsonville Co-op Monday at 6 p.m. Top-seeded Oblong faces that winner at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday followed by Cowden-Herrick against  Dieterich at 6:30. The championship is set for 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

In another Class 2A regional at Robinson, No. 4 seeded Altamont will play on the opening night Monday against No. 5 Lawrenceville at 5:30 p.m. The second match features No. 3 Flora against No. 6 Red Hill (Bridgeport) at 6:30 p.m.

Tuesday's matches feature top-seeded Robinson against the winner of the opening match at 5:30 p.m. followed by No. 2 Newton taking on the winner of the second match at 6:30. The title contest will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.

Also competing in Class 2A is St. Elmo/Brownstown. The Eagles are seeded fifth in the Litchfield Regional and will play Monday against fourth-seeded Pana at 5:30 p.m. No. 3 Vandalia takes on No. 6 Litchfield at 6:30 p.m.

In Tuesday's contests are No. 1 Shelbyville against the winner of the first match at 5:30 p.m. and No. 2 Carlinville against the winner of the second match at 6:30 p.m. Those two winners advance to the championship match Thursday, Oct. 30 at 6 p.m.

The lone area entry in Class 3A is Effingham. The Hearts are seeded third in the Mattoon Regional and will face No. 6 seeded Mount Carmel at 6:30 p.m. Monday. No. 4 Olney faces No. 5 Paris at 5:30.

The winners advance to meet top-seeded Mattoon at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday and No. 2 seeded Charleston at 6:30 p.m. Those winners then square off for the championship at 6 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 30.
