EHS, St. A Claim Volleyball Victories

ALTAMONT -- Effingham High School handed host Altamont a non-conference volleyball loss Monday evening, 25-17, 26-24.
The Hearts were led by Chandler Ramey with nine kills and four aces. Madelin Mitchell had 10 digs. Felicia Totten led in assists with 23. EHS is now 17-10 on the season.
Altamont was led by Laatsch with eight kills. Hoene had five assists while Winters led in digs with seven. Goeckner had three aces while Miller had two stuff blocks. The Indians drop to 9-21.
The Hearts will play host to Slem in Apollo Conference action tonight and honor their seniors in between the junior varsity and varsity matches.
In the junior varsity match, Altamont was a winner 25-14, 24-26, 25-20. The freshman contest went to Altamont 25-21, 25-7.

Effingham St. Anthony downed Olney in non-conference action Monday evening.
The Bulldogs won 25-12, 25-21. Rachel Schultz had 10 digs while Jena Woltman led in assists with 17. Megan Nuxoll had six kills and two blocks. Emily Wortman led in aces with three.
Olney was a winner in the junior varsity contest 25-21, 25-18.

St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up two victories in opening round play of the Egyptian-Illini Conference Tournament Monday.
The Eagles won over Mulberry Grove, 25-10, 25-11. Beecher City then downed Mulberry Grove 25-21, 25-16. St. Elmo/Brownstown picked up the second win over Cowden-Herrick 25-14, 25-12.
The tourney continues tonight as Patoka takes on Ramsey at 6 p.m., Ramsey faces Centralia Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 7 and Patoka against Christ Our Rock Lutheran at 8.

Newton came calling and handed Dieterich two non-conference losses, 25-18, 25-5. The Eagles improve to 19-10 on the season.
Dieterich was led by Mallorie Vahling with eight digs and two points. Mikayla Winters had three kills while Hannah Hunzinger had four assists. Lauren Garbe chipped in with two blocks.
Newton was led by Cohorst with five aces. Litzelman had eight kills. Koebele led in assists with 20. Johnson had five digs.
In junior varsity results, Newton won 25-11, 25-16 to improve to 14-1.

Paris played host to Neoga and claimed a 27-25, 23-25, 25-21 hard-fought non-conference win Monday.
Olivia Ott led Neoga in digs with 14 while Nikki Miah and Lauren Romack had 13 digs each. Taylor Gresens had a whopping 16 kills. Maddie Easton led in assists with 31.
Paris also nabbed the junior varsity contest, 25-18, 20-25, 25-12.

Stewardson-Strasburg, playing without Kendall Knop who is out with an injury, fell to Casey-Westfield in a non-conference matchup.
The Comets won the opener 25-23 but Casey-Westfield came back with a 25-19 count in the second game and won the match 25-18.
Becca Schlechte led the Comets with 20 digs and had 11 kills.
Casey-Westfield also nabbed the junior varsity match 11-25, 25-20, 25-16.

Windsor picked up a non-conference win over Arthur-Lovington/Atwood-Hammond. The Blue Devils lost the opener 25-22 but came back with 25-17, 25-23 wins for the victory.
Autumn Bennett had 12 kills and three blocks for the winners. Claire Pfeiffer added 27 assists. Paige Woolard picked up three blocks and 15 digs. The Blue Deivls are now 21-7 on the season and will host Tuscola tonight during Senior Night festivities.
